EDITORIAL

Acompanhar o percurso das crianças e jovens em harmonia com as estações do ano permite que façamos associações tão bonitas quanto as diferentes cores que a natureza nos oferece. Caminhamos para o encerramento do segundo trimestre, nos aproximando do início da primavera e, assim como o desabrochar das flores, nossos alunos também reflorescem com produções acadêmicas cada vez mais robustas. Um percurso viabilizado por meio de experiências de aprendizagem diferenciadas e muito diversificadas, com pesquisas sobre temas diversos, debates, muitos estudos do meio, apresentações musicais, intercâmbios internacionais, olimpíadas nacionais e internacionais, projeto comunitário, eventos, Exhibition, comitê de gestão e muito mais. e ativa participação das famílias, dando suporte a todas essas realizações. E contar com a ativa participação das famílias, sempre disponíveis para acrescentar e apoiar as iniciativas da escola auxilia a fazer com que o nosso jardim esteja florido o ano inteiro. Nessa edição, compartilhamos algumas flores colhidas para celebrarmos o encerramento do segundo trimestre.

Accompanying the development of children and young people in harmony with the seasons allows us to make associations as beautiful as the many different colors that nature offers. We are moving toward the close of the second trimester, approaching early spring and, like the blossoming of flowers, our students are budding with increasingly robust academic productions. This is a journey made possible through unique and diverse learning experiences, with research on various topics, debates, many field trips, musical presentations, international exchanges, the national and international Olympics, community projects, events, exhibition, management committee and much more all with the support and active participation of families, in these achievements. Having the support and availability of the families adds to the school’s initiatives and helps to make our garden flower all year round. In this issue, we picked some special flowers to share as we celebrate the closing of the second trimester.

We talked with a lot of people in the grammar classes. We could not talk in Portuguese when we had a question like here. I used the attributes of communicator and risk-taker. Risk taker because we did not know the people and we had to start the conversations because otherwise they would not come to talk with us and communicator because we talked a lot and grammar classes focused on conversation. I think the trip to England helped me at school because my English is now a lot better.

I think the attribute that I used the most was being open-minded because I had to embrace a new culture and new people. It was very good for me, because I am usually very shy and this made me a braver person because I had the opportunity to talk to them and learn about their realities and customs while making new friends.

A letter arrived from UBC (The University of British Columbia) and It was my acceptance letter! In that moment all I could think was that my dream had become a reality! I am very thankful to have been able to attend Esfera.

Eu não lembro do peso de ter que estudar aqui na Esfera. Era um conhecimento adquirido mesmo e não tinha aquele processo árduo, que você fica lendo, lendo, lendo...Eu lembro que aprendi assim: eu ia nas aulas, fazia os trabalhos e depois eu simplesmente sabia.

Aqui na escola a gente tem o Centro de Recicláveis que a gente sempre usa para trabalho escolar. Vimos que o projeto estava dando certo, resolvemos levá-lo para outras escolas. Uma delas era de Espírito Santo, em Vitória. A gente montou tudo, organizou e explicou como fazia. Para mostrar para a escola de lá como isso funcionava foi muito legal, porque a gente usou o próprio material que eles trouxeram de casa e colocou na escola. Foi bem legal, foi diferente. Foi o primeiro trabalho voluntário que fiz.

A estrutura da escola leva a gente a procurar coisas, ir além das coisas. Quando você aprende fazendo e depois ter que apresentar para a turma, isso faz muita diferença e você acaba absorvendo o conteúdo melhor e até trabalha com maior desenvoltura. Todo o conteúdo que a gente aprendeu aqui, eu lembro muito bem.O diferencial é que a escola está no nosso coração.

A Esfera dava muita atenção para o lado humano do ensino. Quando tinhamos que falar em público, mesmo sendo tímido, eu conseguia apresentar e ficar tranquilo.E isso te deixa muito na frente, na questão do Ensino Médio até, porque as vezes no Ensino Médio eles pedem uma apresentação e ai você vai lá e acaba sendo o líder do grupo, porque você é o único que sabe falar em público.

When we first came to Brazil, I didn’t know Portuguese and my English was not very good, so we joined Esfera because it is an International School.They gave me the confidence I needed in order to believe in myself. It is a wonderful school where honestly I learned many things I could not have had access to in Israel. I loved it… a lot!

Anyone who comes to Esfera and walks through our hallways does not understand what is going on, because what they see are people speaking English, someone speaking Spanish, another speaking Portuguese, or Korean, or Dutch. The teachers are very close to us, so we are not afraid to approach them and ask a question. Everyone helps everyone else. In 7th grade at Esfera there is a program that takes you to Canada, which brought me my first exposure to Canada. It was amazing! When I look back, I think… I was only 11 years old and now here I am going to Canada again. My Mom called me on Facetime and said “Marcelle, a letter arrived from UBC (The University of British Columbia) and I don’t know what it is”. Then she held up the envelope and it said “Congratulations”! It was my acceptance letter! So she opened it, read it to me and in that moment all I could think was that my dream had become a reality. I am very thankful to have been able to attend Esfera.

Eu tenho muita certeza que a Esfera foi fundamental para a formação da pessoa que sou hoje. Isso vai me ajudar muito, porque tudo o que a escola me proporcionou não foi somente dentro do universo acadêmico, me ajudou também a me tornar a pessoa que eu sou e refletir sobre as minhas próprias ações, não só na escola mas como na vida.

The transition to High School was really ok, because I think Esfera prepared us for that. I’m really prepared because since I was in Esfera, although it is a small school, you learn so many things in so many perspectives that I think that you are not afraid to go into the world and study whatever you want to study. We learn to see the world differently. The other schools are so focused on the “vestibular” and getting into college, and in Esfera it’s more about creating a human being and raising him to be a good person or a good citizen.

Quando você conhece as pessoas que se formaram na Esfera é nítida a diferença, porque são pessoas que tem facilidade para falar, se comunicar e se relacionar com as pessoas no ambiente coletivo. Fica claro quando vamos fazer algum projeto, o espírito de liderança nas pessoas querendo fazer, em saber como trabalhar com as outras pessoas e acho que isso é algo que eu vejo muito claro nas pessoas.

Alunos e professores Esfera integram Mindfulness ao currículo: ferramentas para obter atenção plena no presente, equilíbrio, assim como ampliar as possibilidades de aprendizagens cada vez mais significativas num contexto de escola, de família e de vida!

Reunimos uma comissão de pais para dialogar sobre questões referentes à alimentação. Integrando famílias e membros da equipe da escola, na busca pelo melhor para as nossas crianças e jovens, seguimos no caminho do diálogo, do respeito e da transparência. Foi um encontro muito produtivo!

We created a parent committee dedicated to nutrition issues. By integrating families and school staff on the quest for the best for our children and young people, we are on a path of dialogue, respect and transparency. It was a very productive meeting!

ATENÇÃO PLENA

Esfera students and teachers are integrating Mindfulness into the curriculum. Together they are discovering tools to develop awareness and balance, as well as expanding the possibilities of meaningful learning at school, with their families and in life!

Mais uma vez tivemos um rico momento no 3º encontro do Comitê de Gestão Democrática 2018 composto por pais, alunos representantes de classe do EFII e Orientadoras Educacionais, onde decisões foram tomadas e ideias fomentadas.

We had a wonderful 3rd meeting of the Democratic Management Committee 2018 composed of parents, Middle School class representatives and guidance counselors, where decisions were made and ideas fostered!

COMITÊ DE GESTÃO DEMOCRÁTICA

O Canguru de Matemática é uma olimpíada internacional de matemática direcionada aos alunos de Year 3 a Year 9. Esse ano, o Canguru contou com um número gigantesco de estudantes (mais de seis milhões) em todo o mundo. Nossos alunos garantiram vinte medalhas no total sendo, uma medalha de ouro, nove de prata, dez de bronze e doze certificados de honra ao mérito.

Math Kangaroo is an international mathematical competition directed at students from Year 3 to Year 9. This year there was a record number of participating students (over 6 million) from all over world. Our students gained 20 medals in total, 1 gold medal, 9 silver medals, 10 bronze medals and 12 Certificates of Merit.

Gabriel[Medalha de Bronze - Nível C para alunos de 9º ano]

Para mim, conseguir a medalha de bronze na Olimpíada Internacional Canguru foi algo muito gratificante.Fiz aulas para me preparar, pois sei que essa olimpíada é muito desafiadora e nem todos conseguem uma boa pontuação, e mesmo a prova sendo difícil, eu consegui!

Ganhar uma medalha nessa olimpíada foi uma experiência muito gratificante. Durante as aulas extras de matemática, treinei muito para a prova e aprendi, também, conteúdos novos.A prova foi difícil, porém acho que estava preparado o suficiente.

“I thought that I wasn’t going to get a medal because I made a mistake on the answer card and I was very sad. So today, it was a very big surprise and I am very happy! My gold medal shows that I am very good at Math. All my family is good at Math, so, I am kind of a natural, but I also work hard. At home, I use Math when I play games, but I mostly study Math at school. My teachers have helped me a lot! This medal will go up on our wall shelf, together with the trophies of my brother.”

This option allow parents to advise the school when they are on the way to collect their child(ren), in accordance with the school departure times of each segment.
