• Oversubscription is usual
• Broader Topics!!!
• “changes in the proposal evaluation procedure, particulary in terms of the make-up and briefing of panels of experts”
“It is now clear that Horizon 2020 will be
implemented and evaluated in ways
that are quite different to the past, and
that the emphasis on innovation
across the entire programme will have
several implications for those writing
proposals.
Understanding these will be key for
those interested in preparing successful

• “This part of the work programme will contribute to boosting competitiveness, creating jobs and supporting growth”
• “Strengthen Europes’s industrial capacities and business perspectives, including SMEs”
• “Strong industrial dimension”
• “The funded projects will be outcome oriented”
Tightly couple research with innovation!!!!
9 (06/05/2015)
• Different aspects of innovation are embedded in each of the 3 evaluation criteria used for selecting projects
• Investors (VCs, BAs) and market experts will be secured for panels evaluating proposals.
La INNOVACIÓN en los criterios de evaluación
Criteria will be interpreted by evaluators within the context of the topic addressed by the proposal, taking into account
the WP text, the type of action and the nature of the proposed activities.
La importancia de la nota del Impacto

La INNOVACIÓN en los criterios de evaluación
'Excellence' criterion (excerpt)
• Extent that proposed work is ambitious, has innovation potential, and is beyond the state of the art
'Impact' criterion (excerpt)
• Enhancing innovation capacity and integration of new knowledge;
• …developing innovations meeting the needs of European and global markets; and, where relevant, by delivering such innovations to the markets
'Quality & efficiency of the implementation' (excerpt)
• Appropriateness of the management structures and procedures, including risk and innovation management.
Note: For 'Innovation' actions the score for 'impact' will be weighted by a factor of 1.5
La importancia de la nota del Impacto

En palabras de la CE…
Tightly couple research with innovation!!!!
• Address Research and Innovation from lab to market
• Encourage both incremental and disruptive innovation
• Consider a closer relationship between research and entrepreneurship
• Put SMEs in the lead in delivering innovations to the market.
• Keep in mind that evaluators from the business and investor domains will probably be involved in the selection process (e.g. Investors (VCs, BAs) and market experts)
• Consider coupling the last phases of your project with cumulative funding: access to risk capital for innovative SMEs & midcaps
• Ensure a clear emphasis on innovation EVERYWHERE in your proposal!!!

Criterio de Evaluación VII PM Potential impact through the development, dissemination and use of the project results:
• Contribution, at the European and/or international level , to the expected impacts listed in the
work programme under relevant topic activity.
• Appropriateness of measures for the dissemination and/or exploitation of project results, and
management of intellectual property.
Criterio de Evaluación H2020
The following aspects will be taken into account, to the extent to which the
outputs of the project should contribute at the European and/or International
level:
• The expected impacts listed in the work programme under the relevant
topic;
• Enhancing innovation capacity and integration of new knowledge;
• Strengthening the competitiveness and growth of companies by
developing innovations meeting the needs of European and global markets,
and where relevant, by delivering such innovations to the markets;
• Any other environmental and socially important impacts;
• Effectiveness of the proposed measures to exploit and disseminate the
project results (including management of IPR), to communicate the project,
and to manage research data where relevant.
Lo que el evaluador espera ver
13 (06/05/2015)
Lo que un evaluador esperaría ver… • The expected impacts listed in the work programme under the relevant topic; • Enhancing innovation capacity and integration of new knowledge; • Strengthening the competitiveness and growth of companies by developing innovations meeting the needs of European and global markets, and where relevant, by delivering such innovations to the markets; • Any other environmental and socially important impacts; • Effectiveness of the proposed measures to exploit and disseminate the project results (including management of IPR), to communicate the project, and to manage research data where relevant.

• Evitar incoherencias…
• ….Que sea fácil de seguir
• ¡Que le entren ganas
de invertir en el
proyecto!

Proposals for Research & Innovation and for Innovation Actions should include an outline of the initial exploitation and business plans, which will be developed further in the proposed project. For these topics, these initial plans may address private funds, or assess synergies and possible cumulative funding with relevant national / regional research and innovation programmes and/or European Structural and Investment Funds related to smart specialisation strategies. For this purpose the tools provided by the Smart Specialization Platform, Eye@RIS322 may be useful. The results of these activities as well as the envisaged further activities in this respect should be described in the final report of the project.

3. Y ahora…
Fuente: www.guidetobusinessplanning.com
27 (06/05/2015)
Cómo: según la CE (para LEIT) Business Plan
• Note that “plan for the dissemination and exploitation” as requested in the template refers to TWO DIFFERENT PLANS
• Business Plan should include:
• Exploitable results and key applications
• Description of the IPR and exploitation team and their work during the project
• Market potential areas and how to further analyse them
• Business model: identification of main clients, marketing strategy
• Financial projections: sales forecast, investment needed cumulative funding (synergies with other funds)
• Commercialization roadmaps
• Tightly couple your business plan with the implementation part

largo de toda la propuesta;

2. Impact
2.1. Expected impact

SKILLS
“Horizon 2020 aims to strengthen the
human resources base and strongly focus on
delivering skills relevant to the labour
market and allowing the knowledge to be
translated into innovative products and
services. It provides a clear response to a
growing demand for highly skilled
personnel to boost innovation and
academia-business interactions in line with
the key priority open labour market for
researchers set in the reinforced European
Research Area partnership for excellence
and growth communication (2012)”

2.2. Measures to maximize impact a) Dissemination and exploitation results
• Plan for dissemination and exploitation for the projects results: Se trata de dos planes distintos e interconectados.
