so.

Have a Great Vacation
May 12th to Friday, May 16th, we will be on vacation from
classes. We hope that you all have a wonderful vacation
and a well-deserved rest. We look forward to seeing you
back on MONDAY, MAY 19th with renewed energy and
even more thirst for learning
Happy Mother’s Day
This coming Sunday is Mother’s Day. We would like to wish all the
mothers who celebrate this day in our school community a wonder-
ful day. We hope you can celebrate with your family and that you
enjoy the beautiful cards and gifts that your children have made
with lots of love and dedication. Happy Mother’s Day!
Winter Schedule – 8:30 am to 3:15pm
As mandated by Cusco’s Ministry of Education branch, we must
begin a winter schedule when we return from vacation on May 19th
until July 25th, the last day of school before winter vacation. This
mandate indicates that classes must be pushed back 30 minutes.
As a result, primary and secondary will start classes at 8:30am. Simi-
larly, school dismissal will be 30 minutes later – 3:15pm.
Afterschool workshops will begin 15 minutes later to start at 3:30pm.
It will end at 4:30pm as usual. The Nursery schedule will not
change.
The school doors will open at 8:00am. It is
important to take this into consideration as
there will not be staff to watch students until
this time. Please don’t send them too early
as the government mandate is trying to
protect the students from the cold.
Below is a section of the mandate that pro-
vides important guidelines to keep in mind.
*Students are allowed to attend with warm
clothing (jackets, sweaters etc.) in addition
to the regular uniform.
*Classrooms should be well ventilated during and after classes.
*Students should avoid being exposed to inclement weather during
formation, performances, as well as Physical Education classes.
* Students who have cold or flu symptoms should not be permitted
to attend school to avoid getting others sick and epidemics.
*In addition, it is important to follow the following hygiene measures
to avoid the presence of and increase of respiratory illnesses.
Encourage students to wash their hands frequently at home
and school.
Keep doorknobs and objects used by many people clean. Do
not share utensils or cups.
Use disposable tissues or toilet paper when sneezing and
coughing and throw them away in a closed bag after use.
Cover your mouth and nose with the inside of your elbow.
If a general contamination is identified at the school, corre-
sponding authorities should be informed.
Thank you for making the necessary arrangements. We apologize
for any inconvenience this official mandate may cause.
Teacher Changes
As we previously mentioned, teacher Juan Aránguez is no longer
working with us due to personal reasons. As a result, Manuel Ramos
Peña, a biologist, will take over as science teacher starting May
19th. His parent meeting time will be on Mondays at 9:30am. Simi-
larly, the 7th Grade “tutora” will be Anny Ver-
gara who currently teaches Social Studies. Her
parent meeting time is Mondays at 12:00.
We would like to extend a warm welcome to
Manuel and Anny and are confident they will
continue the great work with our students. We
would also like to thank Juan for all of his hard
work.
Secondary School Spelling Bee – SCHEDULE CHANGES
On Thursday, May 22 we will hold our Third Annual Spelling Bee.
Please note the changed times. A spelling bee is a spelling con-
test in which participants spell a word out loud. As participants
make a mistake, they are eliminated from the contest leaving
one winner. In our school the spelling bees are a bit different.
All the students in the grade will stand up in front of the audience.
The organizer will tell the first student a word, if s/he spells it cor-
rectly, s/he remains standing and the organizer tells the next child
a word. However, if the student misspells the word, s/he sits down
and continues cheering for his/her classmates and the same
word is given to the next participant. Instead of waiting until there
is only one winner, when the 45 minutes allotted for the event
expires, all the children still standing will earn a point. The words
used in this event will be from list of vocabulary studied thus far
provided by Teacher Jackie.
We encourage parents to attend and cheer on their children, but
remind them not to try to help their child during the competition.
Each grade’s spelling bee will last 45 minutes. The schedule is as
follows:
dario.
gual School (Sitio Oficial). Los invitamos a darle “like” a nuestra página y
¡Esperamos que nuestros alumnos/as puedan
For Parent Representatives
We would like to remind you that the APAFA parent association
has been meeting to organize diverse activities. The next meeting
will be Tuesday, May 20th at 8:45am at the main school in Santa
Maria. We hope you will be able to attend.
Arrival at School
Remember that during the arrival and dismissal time, we
ask those who come in their own cars to park beyond
the outside gate, on the asphalt road – not in the dirt
road directly in front of the school. We would like to also
make a special request to not leave cars blocking the
entrances of our neighbors. This helps provide a safer
environment for the children and show consideration
and respect for our neighbors. Please remember that
children cannot enter the school until 8:00am and not
before.
Our Facebook Page
We are happy to announce that we have been posting pictures
for our daily life at school on our Facebook page: Ausangate
Bilingual School (Sitio Oficial). We encourage you to visit us and
“like” our page and make comments if you feel so inclined.
Thanks for your support.
Borrowing from the Library
In order to borrow books from the library, you must have signed
the library form distributed during Parent-Teacher interviews.
Please ask your child’s teacher through the communication book
if you need this form. We look forward to our students using the
library a great deal this year!
Use of Hats and Sunblock
It is mandatory for students to use hats and sunblock when they
are exposed to the sun. Thank you for following this rule and talk-
ing with your children about respecting it.
