Icouldn't cling and haul myself up atthe sam e time. Two days fromCyprus I anchored near Kas,Turkey to get deep sleep and rig upa rope shroud. Headwinds contin-ued so l day-sailed along themountains west before taking acouple of days off in Rhodes. The2000 miles across the Med.

Across the Aegean Sea the''Meltemi'' wlnd roared through atForce 8 for a couple of days 1sought shelter behind the tiny is-land of Nisos Sirira. The Greeklsles are famous for acceleratingthe wind down the leeward slopes.

Cookie bravely battled williwawsscreaming off the cliffs and sendingcudains of mist and spray into theair. Sail c10th juddered protest asthe gusts slammed into us, butslowly we reached relative calm atthe head of a bay. Out with thestern anchor and Iine ashore.

Abnormal VHF clarlty meant I over-heard sailing friends talking 50miles away on my handheld VHF.So we made a rendezvous at aharbour on the ''toe'' of Italy. W on-derful to catch up and swap storiessince the Suez Canal.

weather was the same - surprise.surprise.

The reception that Cookie. Malcand I received arriving in Millbrookat the PCA summer meet was fan-tastic (See Sea People 343. Thankyou to aII present for makingCookie's homecoming so special.

The final pod of call was the homeport of Dartmouth where friendsand family gave me a huge wel-come at the Dart Marina. I wasoverwhelmed with so many emo-tlons. My dream was complete.

Finally, just to say in my dreams, Ireally wanted to sail the smallestcatamaran around the world. So 1just went out and found a way to doit. Everyone has dreams and de-sires, so whatever you want to do,just do it.

I had arranged to meet Marc at14 00 hrs Just outside the ferry ter-minal at Ostend. The problemstaded when 1 arrived at Ramsgateand was asked for my passpod -the one thing I had forgotten. Aftermy wife faxed the relevant pages Iwas allowed on the ferry. The nextproblem was how to get into Bel-glum. Absolutely no chance wasthe attitude of the Belgium Cus-toms W hilst I was still pleading Isaw Marc arrive with Felix on lt'strailer - not hard to mlssl

W e were now at an impasse.couldn't go out through the gatesand Marc couldn't come in and nowe couldn't just push the boat onIt's traller through the gates! How-ever, when they realised that theywould have to put up with pleadingfrom 13.00 hrs to 20.00 hrs whenmy return ticket was valid (1 wasn'tallowed to book a 21ft trailer on thefast Catamaran ferry) They re-Iented and rushed Marc throughthe gates W e swapped the carsover and I was rushed back ontothe fast Cat. ferry on whlch l hadarrived. There was no problem get-ting back into the UK and I wasback hom e by 21 00 hrs W hat aday! A few more grey hairs but atrium ph for common sense overrules and regujations.
