Third Sunday of Easter (Cycle C) A Sunday Reflection
The apostle who had proclaimed Jesus as Messiah, the Son of the living God, later—in a moment of fear and weakness—denied him three times. At the cock’s crow, when Jesus turns and looks at him (Lk 22:61), Peter realizes what he has done and weeps bitterly. His repentance is heartfelt and sincere.
And the Lord will not be outdone in mercy. In this third post resurrection appearance which we read today, Jesus asks Peter three times if he loves Him. The once boastful apostle now recognizes that he can only do so much. The play on words in Greek between agape and philia is lost in translation, but Peter knows how limited his love is and responds with phileos, an all too human love. For Jesus this is enough: “Feed my sheep” (Jn 21:17).
Jesus requires the same of us. He knows well our limitations and warns us as He warned Peter. Let us then love our Lord with our imperfect, human love, knowing that He will supply whatever we lack. God bless you!

Reflexión Dominical El apóstol que había proclamado a Jesús como Mesías, el Hijo
del Dios vivo, más tarde—en un momento de temor y debilidad—lo negó tres veces. Al cantar el gallo, Jesús se vuelve y lo mira (Lc22,61), y Pedro, dándose cuenta de lo que ha hecho, llora amargamente. Su arrepentimiento es hondo y sincero.
Nadie le gana al Señor en misericordia. En esta tercera aparición después de la resurrección que leemos hoy, Jesús le pregunta a Pedro ¡tres veces! si lo ama. El apóstol que antes era soberbio comprende qué tanto puede hacer. El juego de palabras en griego entre agape y philia se pierde en la traducción; no obstante, Pedro sabe lo limitado que es su amor y responde con phileos, un amor muy humano. Para Jesús es suficiente: “Alimenta mis ovejas” (Jn 21,17).
A nosotros nos pide lo mismo. Jesús conoce bien nuestras limitaciones y nos lo advierte como se lo advirtió a Pedro. Amemos al Señor con nuestro amor humano e imperfecto, con la certeza de que Él nos dará todo lo que nos falta. Que Dios los bendiga.

The Pope Speaks / Habla el Papa Apostolic Exhortation Christus Vivit! No. 13
Jesus, himself eternally young, wants to give us hearts that are ever young. God’s word asks us to “cast out the old leaven that you may be fresh dough” (1 Cor 5:7). Saint Paul invites us to strip ourselves of the “old self” and to put on a “young” self
(Col 3:9-10). In explaining what it means to put on that youthfulness “which is being renewed” (v. 10), he mentions
“compassion, kindness, humility, meekness and patience, bearing with one another and forgiving each other if anyone
has a complaint against another” (Col 3:12-13). In a word, true youth means having a heart capable of loving, whereas
everything that separates us from others makes the soul grow old. And so he concludes: “above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds everything
together in perfect harmony” (Col 3:14).

Jesús, el eternamente joven, quiere regalarnos un corazón siempre joven. La
Palabra de Dios nos pide: «Eliminen la levadura vieja para ser masa joven» (1
Co 5,7). Al mismo tiempo nos invita a despojarnos del «hombre viejo» para
revestirnos del hombre «joven» (cf. Col 3,9.10). Y cuando explica lo que es
revestirse de esa juventud «que se va renovando» (v. 10) dice que es tener
«entrañas de misericordia, de bondad, humildad, mansedumbre, paciencia,
soportándose unos a otros y perdonándose mutuamente si alguno tiene queja
contra otro» (Col 3,12-13). Esto significa que la verdadera juventud es tener un
corazón capaz de amar. En cambio, lo que avejenta el alma es todo lo que nos
separa de los demás. Por eso concluye: «Por encima de todo esto, revístanse del
amor, que es el vínculo de la perfección» (Col 3,14).

Holy Lives /Vidas Santas SERVANT OF GOD JULIO CÉSAR DUARTE (1906-
1943) — Born in Paraguay, Father Julio entered the seminary in Asunción in February, 1921, and continued his studies in Rome. He was ordained to the priesthood in 1927 by Pope Pius XI. After his stay in Europe, he returned to Paraguay, where he carried on a very active life. Among his many works, Father Julio founded the Ybycuí Hospital, in addition to Hogar San José for orphaned and abandoned children.
He was also engaged in building numerous churches and chapels in various communities. In addition, he worked for the advancement of the community, becoming chairman of the Public Works Commission of Ybicuí, which allowed him to improve and build roads to connect far off communities.
Father Julio predicted his own death three years prior to his passing. He died on July 4, 1943, at the age of 37. He was declared a Servant of God in 2013.
SIERVO DE DIOS JULIO CÉSAR DUARTE (1906-1943) — Nacido en Paraguay, el Padre Julio ingresó al seminario en Asunción en febrero de 1921 y continuó sus estudios en Roma. Fue ordenado sacerdote en 1927 por el papa Pío XI. Luego de su estadía en Europa regresó a Paraguay, donde desarrolló una intensa actividad. Entre las obras más destacadas del padre Julio se recuerda la creación del Hospital de Ybycuí, además del Hogar San José, para niños huérfanos y abandonados.
Bajo su dirección se procedió a la construcción de iglesias y capillas en distintos lugares. También tuvo una participación activa en beneficio de su comunidad siendo presidente de la Comisión de Fomento y Trabajo de Ybycuí, lo que le permitió reiniciar la reparación de caminos para mejorar la comunicación con lugares alejados.
El padre Julio, quien había predicho su propia muerte tres años antes, falleció el 4 de julio de 1943 a la edad de 37 años. En abril de 2013 fue declarado Siervo de Dios.

Our eighth grade class spent the day at St Ann's Nursing Home in Homestead. The students sang songs, read poems, performed skits and played music for the elderly. This was a beautiful experience for the students and allowed them the opportunity to share the love of Christ with others

The 7th graders attended the La Salle High School Open House Event. Our students were able to visit the campus and enjoyed the experience of seeing what it would be like to be a high school student for a day.
Students gathered in the school hall for a presentation from Coral Vita, the coral restoration program we raised money for during the art show. The students learned about the importance of protecting God's cre-ation and understanding how to conserve and protect our delicate ecosystems.
