THE BIG VILLAS PROMENADEA pleasant audioguided route along the Quays of Las Arenas and Arriluze, where some information panels will help you relive Getxo’s golden years. FISHING PORT - SANTURTZI ITSASOA MUSEOA INTERPRETATION CENTRE This museum, located next to the Fishermen's Association (1916), shows a complete tour of the maritime history of Santurtzi, and El Abra Bay, the gateway to the main river artery of Bilbao and Bizkaia: the Ibaizabal estuary-Nervion.

LA GALEALa Galea is a beautiful coastal fringe formed by a succession of cliffs, beaches and inlets with marvellous panoramic views of the coastline. Don’t miss it! Aixerrota Windmill (1726), Our Lady of Carmen Cemetery (1908), Andra Mari Church (12th cent.), La Galea Fort (1742), La Galea Lighthouse, Aizkorri / Gorrondatxe beach. (Golden spike), La Salvaje / Barinatxe beach.

MEDIEVAL TOWN (Santiago North Way)It was declared Monumental complex in 1996.We can cross the three streets that formed the old medieval village: Coscojales street. Víctor Chávarri Street, popularly known as Calle del Medio and Santa María street.To highlight the presence of the town of Portugalete within the Way of the Coast in the pilgrimage to Santiago.The Pilgrim's Municipal Hostel is situated at Zubi-Alde Sports Center and it’s open from June 1 to September 30.

BASÍLICA SANTA MARÍA 15th century Basilica in Gothic style with Renaissance influences, especially on the façades. The Basilica also houses a sacred art museum, where examples of silverwork, church garments, a choir book from the 17th century and a pulpit sounding board from the 19th century are on display.

SALAZAR TOWERMedieval tower house of the 15th century that belonged to the Salazar lineage. It currently houses a museum and a Basque haute cuisine restaurant.

ORIOL PALACEBuilt in 1902 on a headland overlooking the Bay of the Abra, this beautiful palace is a fine example of the residential-style buildings of that era and one of the few that still remain in Santurtzi. From the viewpoint we can enjoy of great views of all the Abra bay.

TIDE GAUDE AND THE IRON WHARF Following the quay of Churruca, between magnificent construc-tions of the end of the 19th century, we arrive to the tide gaude, whose aim was to measure the level of the tides. Then, we find the iron wharf (1877), declared heritage of cultural interest in 2012. Considered us one of the greatest engineering constructions of the late 19th century, it made easier the navigation of chips by the river.

SAN JORGE CHURCHThe name of the town comes from its Saint Patron San Jorge (Saint George). Originally a Romanesque church it houses the worshiped Our Lady of Mount Carmel.

OLD FISHING PORTThis district with its gaily coloured fishermen’s cottages and narrow streets, is a weekend favourite among the Getxo natives and visitors, who come together to have some glasses of wine, “pintxos” or simply stroll and enjoy the magnificent views of the river mouth.
