Question of the Week

Question for Children: When have you become a peacemaker? Among your friends? In your family? At school? Other times? Question for Youth: All Saints Day gives us a chance to remember the saints of our Church and of our lives. Who are the people who have been saints in your life? Question for Adults: When you heard the Beatitudes today, which one did you hear most clearly as a summons for your own life?

WE LONG TO SEE GOD'S FACE "Lord, this is the people that longs to see your face." This antiphon for today's responsorial psalm offers the focus for today's readings. As we on earth celebrate the triumph of all the saints--the ones officially canonized by the Church, and the countless others who have also reached heaven--we add nothing to their glory. But we give ourselves reason to hope. We too long to see the face of God and believe that we can one day be counted among those whose robes, as John tells us in the book of Revelation, are washed "white in the blood of the Lamb."

The passage from John's First Letter offers further assurance: we are God's children who will one day see God. But today's Gospel pulls us past longing and reassurance into action. Jesus clearly tells us what we must do to be counted among the saints. We must be poor in spirit, hungry for holiness, merciful, single-hearted, and peacemakers! Then we too will see the face of God. Copyright (c) J. S. Remembrance Service Monday, November 02, at 6:00 p.m.

To honor members of our parish family and other close relatives who have died since All Souls’ Day 2014, we will celebrate a special service of remembrance on Monday, November 2, at 6:00 p.m. The church takes this day to remember all those who have died and “gone before us marked with the sign of faith.” In faith, we believe that we remain united with our loved ones because the

Kingdom of God is not bound by death. The Book of Remembrance will be displayed in the Narthex, and we invite those, whose loved one has died in the past year, to write in this book THE NAMES OF THE DECEASED. For your loved ones name to be read during the service, LEGIBLY PRINT HIS/HER NAME. Please bring a picture of your loved one, no larger than 8X10, for display in front of the Altar. Bereavement Ministers will be there to assist with the placement of the pictures. We invite one representative from each family to participate in an opening procession by carrying a lit candle, purchased for $5.00 at the parish office, or from ushers before or after each weekend Mass and place the candle within the picture display. Candles will remain lit throughout the Service. After the service, all are invited for a small gathering at the Parish Center. For additional information, please contact Ursula Benitez at (909) 797-2533 ext. 225 or by email at [email protected]

Solemnity of All Saints 4 November 1, 2015

Today we join our Catholic brothers and sisters throughout the entire world, and in Heaven celebrating “All Saint’s Day”, rejoicing and honoring God and all the Saints, in union with the

angels. Our Gospel reading for the day is Revelation 7:2-4, 9-14. the book Days of the Lord, vol. 7, p. 238 calls it, “The page that is one of the most beautiful and comforting of the Book of Revelation.” Verses 2-4 describes John’s vision of the Heavenly celebration, as including a great number of Saints from the 12 tribes of Judah, those who lived their lives as Saints during Old Testament times before Jesus’ Incarnation. Verses 9-14 describes the great multitude which no one could count, from every nation, race, people, and tongue who are being honored as God’s Saints, wearing white robes, holding palm branches and crying out “Salvation comes from our God and from the Lamb.” Revelation 1:1 indicates that John wrote Revelation to show God’s servants, “What must happen soon.” In Days of the Lord, vol. 7, p. 238, the author stresses that it is urgent for us to commit our lives each day in the present time, in order to be ready to show God’s rewards of tomorrow. When Jesus proclaimed the Beatitudes, he was reaffirming the kingdom and urging the conversion of hearts. What traits is Jesus seeking from us in The Beatitudes? (being poor in spirit, thirsty for righteousness, merciful, clean of heart, peace makers, real, sincere dedication to God). “We the Stephen Ministry sincerely care about you!!
