Arts in the Village is pleased to announce its 2018–2019 concert series. The talents of this sea-son’s exceptional musicians will be showcased in five exciting

concerts. All performances will take place on Saturday evenings at 7:30 pm, at Goff Memorial Hall, 124 Bay State Road, in Rehoboth, MA 02769. The doors open at 7:00 pm for a wine bar, and seating is non-reserved. Payment may be made by cash or by checks made out to the Rehoboth Antiquarian Society. Please note that sub-scriptions offer a substantial savings. For information, call 508-463-5384. We look forward to seeing you soon!

Guy Fishman & Friends Guy Fishman is principal cellist of Boston’s Handel and Haydn Society, the nation’s oldest continuously performing arts organization, and Ian Watson is H+H’s resident conductor and principal keyboardist. They will be joined by H+H star contralto Emily Marvosh for a program of German Romantic music by Brahms, Schumann, and Mendelssohn. All three wrote magnifi-cent works for the cello that remain both staples of its repertoire and audience favorites. Among these are the sonatas by Mendelssohn and Brahms, the Fantasiestucke by Schumann, and songs for alto and viola by Brahms, played in this concert on the cello.

Frederick Moyer, solo piano One of the most exciting pianists before the public today, Frederick Moyer has established a career for over 35 years as a full-time concert pianist. He has performed in forty-three countries and venues that include Suntory Hall in Tokyo, Sydney Opera House, Windsor Castle, and the Kennedy Center. Equally at home with classical music and jazz, Moyer presents recitals that are creative, engaging, and entertaining, with time-honored favorites as well as pieces that audiences may be hearing for the first time. His MoyerCam projection system allows audi-ence members to see his hands as he performs.

Providence Mandolin Orchestra Led by music director Mark Davis for the past twenty-five years, the Providence Mandolin Orchestra per-forms a wide repertoire of music from around the world including many original compositions. This program will feature the US premiere of “Acerca de la Felicidad,” a prize-winning piece from Spain featuring guitar soloist Adam Levin, who has concertized around the world and has recorded three CDs of new Spanish guitar music. Other works on the program include Prelude No. 2 by Yoshimizu, “Reverie de Poete” by Manente, and a new arrangement of Stanley Myers “Cavatina.”

Duo Stephanie & SaarDuo Stephanie & Saar, a NYC-based piano duo, are known for concerts filled with visceral excitement, elegance, and artistic vision. Recent performance high-lights include NYC’s Lincoln Center, a collaboration with Philadelphia’s Orchestra 2001, and a complete performance of J. S. Bach’s “The Art of Fugue” at the Arizona Bach Festival. The Duo’s piano four-hands recital will include Igor Stravinsky’s iconic “The Rite of Spring” and Ludwig van Beethoven’s “Grosse Fuge,” both in the composers’ original piano four-hands tran-scriptions. Also not to be missed is Franz Schubert’s “Fantasie in F Minor,” perhaps the most beloved four-hand work in the repertoire.

Some Assembly Required Some Assembly Required collaborates with compos-ers, guest performers, and audiences in the production of exciting, atypical, and carefully curated concerts. While its core instrumentation is horn, trombone, and piano, SAR starts by choosing music that it wants to perform and then finding a way to provide a meaningful presentation by methods of arrangement and collabora-tion with others. For this concert, SAR will present a program that explores various aspects of spirituality through music by Stravinsky, Margaret Brouwer, and a world premier by Adam Schumaker, with guests Wol-cott Humphrey (clarinet) and Andrea Baker (bassoon).
