    1. Complete yourapplicationOnce you have Form N-400,

    you must fill it out completely.USCIS may ask for additionalinformation if your application isincomplete. This will delay theprocessing of your naturalizationapplication.You will be required to answerquestions about your applicationat your interview.     honestly. Be sure to keep a copyof your completed application foryour records.

    2. Get two photographstakenYou must include two standard,passport-style, color photographswith your application.Be sure there is enough whitespace in the margin of thephotographs so you will have

    room to sign your full name ifyour application is approved. Thephotographs must also be: Unmounted and printedon thin paper, on a whitebackground with a full frontalview of your face; and Taken within 30 days of thedate they are sent to USCIS.

    interview, or to bring additionaldocuments with you to yourinterview.Be sure to send an Englishtranslation with any documentthat is not already in English.The translation must include astatement from the translator thathe or she is competent to translateand that the translation is correct.If you do not have a required

    3. Get your fingerprintstakenCurrently, all sites takefingerprints electronically.However, manual workstations

    are available for applicantswhose prints cannot be takenelectronically.In order to do a criminalbackground check, USCIS willsend your fingerprints to theFederal Bureau of Investigation(FBI). In some cases, the FBImay reject your fingerprintsbecause of the quality of theprints.

    If the FBI rejects yourfingerprints, USCIS will notifyyou and schedule a second visitto the fingerprinting site. Youwill not be asked to pay again.If the FBI rejects yourfingerprints twice, you will beasked to provide police

    your background, USCIS willlocate your immigration file.Sometimes USCIS may needadditional documents from youbefore we can schedule your

    interview. If USCIS needs moreinformation from you, we willsend you a letter telling youwhat information we need andwhere to send it.

    5. Wait for USCIS toschedule your interviewOnce everything is ready,USCIS will schedule you for aninterview. USCIS will send youan interview notice in the mail

    that will tell you the date, time,and place of your interview.

    USCIS accepts credit cards in all domestic Field Offices that accept payments.Accepted cards include Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and DiscoverNetwork.

    USCIS Check Instructions

    Customers that require payment for the services they are requesting are advised tofollow the instructions below to ensure that their application will be filed correctly.

    If you are paying your fees by check, please be aware of the following:

    Electronic Deposit of Checks If you are paying your fees by check to the cashier,we will convert your check into an electronic fund transfer. When you hand yoursigned check to the cashier, we will scan your check and retain it. We will then use

    the account information from your check to make an electronic fund transfer fromyour checking account for the amount of the check.

    Insufficient Funds Please note that the electronic fund transfer from your accountcan occur faster than normal processing of a paper check. If we cannot completethe electronic fund transfer because your account has insufficient funds, we will tryto make the transfer up to two more times. If your account still lacks sufficientfunds, you will be billed the original check amount and a one-time administrativefee by USCIS.

    Authorization By presenting your check to the cashier, you authorize USCIS toconvert your check into an electronic fund transfer. If the transfer cannot occur for

    technical reasons, you authorize us to process the copy of your original checkthrough normal paper check procedures.

    Please NotePersonal checks must be pre-printed with the name of the bank and the account holder.Also, the account holders address and phone number must be pre-printed, typed orwritten in ink on the check. All checks must be typed or written in ink.

    1. Write the date you are filling out the check including: day, month and year.

    2. On the "Pay to the Order of" line write: "U.S. Department of Homeland Security."

    3. Write in numbers the exact dollar amount of the fee for the service you arerequesting. In the example, the amount is "$595.00."

    4. Spell out the exact dollar amount of the fee for the service you are requesting. The"cents" portion of the amount should be written as a fraction over 100. In thisexample, the amount is "Five hundred ninety-five and 00/100."

    5. Write a brief description of the purpose of your payment. In this example, it is "N-400 application fee."

    6. Sign the check using your legal signature.
