    3. HAZARDSIDENTIFICATION

    POTENTI AL HEAL TH EFFECTS:

EYE: Li quid in eyes produces pain and irri tation with mild temporary damagepossible. Vapor can irri tate eyes.

SKIN:Prolonged or repeated contact of liquid can cause irritation, defatting of skin and dermatitis. Absorption of liquidthrough intact skin is possible, causing systemic poisoning, but this is an unlikely routeof signif icant toxic exposure.

I NGESTI ON: Single dose oral toxicity is considered to below. Small amountsswall owed incidental to normal handli ngoperations are not li kely to cause injury; swall owing amounts larger than that may cause injury. If aspirated (li quid entersthe lung), may be rapidly absorbed through the lungsand result i n injury to other body systems.

I NHA L AT I ON: Inhalation is themajor potential route of exposure. Exposureto high concentrationsof vapor or mistcan cause central nervous system depression with symptoms of headache, dizziness, stupor, loss of consciousness or deathdepending on concentration and duration of exposure. Exposure to high concentrations can cause irregular heartbeat, cardiac arrest and death. Overexposure has been shown to cause adverse eff ects on theli ver, nervoussystem and otherinternal organs.

SYSTEMIC (OTHER TARGET ORGANS): Themain ingredient of this product, Trichloroethylene, is reported tohave caused hearing lossin lab animals upon repeated exposure of 2500 ppm or higher. Repeated exposure may causecentral or possibly even peripheral nervoussystem eff ects; high levels have caused li ver or ki dney eff ects in lab animals.

CANCER I NFORM ATI ON: For Hazard Communication purposes, under OSHA Standard 29 CFR Part 1910.1200,the main ingredient of this product, Trichloroethylene, is li sted as a potential carcinogen by IA RC. Tumors wereobserved in mice given largedoses of Trichloroethylene (TCE). A very low incidence of tumors has been observed inmale rats at high levels of TCE, which caused reduced survival, rending these studies inadequate. Data suggest anongenotoxic mechanism for tumor formation that implies that nontoxic doses of TCE should pose little or notcarcinogenic hazard. Human data have not established an association between TCE exposure and cancer. TCE is notbeli eved to pose a measurable carcinogenic risk to man when handled as recommended.

    TERATOL OGY (BIRTH DEFECTS): None

    REPRODUCTI VE EFFECTS: None

    4. FIRST AID

EYES: Irrigate with fl owing water i mmediately and continuously for 15 minutes while frequently l if ting theupper andlower eyelids. If i rri tation persists, consult medical personnel.

    11. TOXICOLOGI CAL I NFORM ATI ON

    ACUTE TOXICIT Y

INHALATION: 200 ppm causes mild eye irritation. 400 ppm causes sli ght eye irritation and minimal light-headednessafter 3 hours. 1,000-1,200 ppm after 6 minutes causes eye and nasal irritation, li ght-headedness and dizziness. 2,000 ppmcannot generally betolerated, is irri tating to the eyesand respiratory tract and causes drowsiness, dizziness and nauseawithin 5 minutes. Ventricular arrhythmias and very rapid respiration have been observed in indivi duals exposed to 15,000ppm. High concentrations or prolonged overexposure can cause unconsciousness and death.

    CHRONIC TOXICI TY

Chronic overexposure to the ingredient Trichloroethylene has caused toxic eff ects in the li ver, lymphatic system (onespecies), kidney and cardiovascular system of experimental animals. Humans exposed to Tri chloroethylene can becomeintolerant to ethyl alcohol, with small quantiti es causing inebriation and skin blotches. Reports have been publi shedassociating increased incidences of scieroderma(systemic scierosis) with exposure to Trichloroethylene. The fi nding ofchronic toxic eff ectsin lab animals may indicate toxicity to humans. Overexposureshould beavoided; fail ureto do socould result in ill ness, injury or even death depending on the level and duration of exposure.

Reauthorization Act (SARA) and 40 CFR Part 372

    3. HAZARDS IDENTIFICATION

    POTENTIAL HEALTH EFFECTS:

EYE: Direct contact may cause pain. May cause moderate eye irritation, which may be slow to heal. May cause slightcorneal injury. Vapors may irritate eyes.

SKIN: Prolonged or repeated exposure may cause skin irritation, even a burn. Repeated contact may cause drying or

flaking of skin. May cause more severe response if confined to skin. Extensive skin contact with product, such asimmersion, may cause an intense burning sensation followed by a cold, numb feeling which will subside after contact. A

single prolonged exposure is not likely to result in the material being absorbed through skin in harmful amounts.

INGESTION: Single dose oral toxicity is considered to be low. Small amounts swallowed incidental to normal handling

operations are not likely to cause injury; swallowing amounts larger than that may cause injury. If aspirated (liquid enters

the lung), may be rapidly absorbed through the lungs and result in injury to other body systems.

INHALATION: In confined or poorly ventilated areas, excessive vapor release can readily accumulate and can cause

unconsciousness and death. Excessive overexposure may cause irritation to upper respiratory tract. Excessive exposure

may cause carboxyhemoglobinemia, thereby impairing the bloods ability to transport oxygen. Minimal anesthetic or

narcotic effects may be seen in the range of 500-1000 ppm. Progressively higher levels over 1000 ppm can causedizziness, drunkenness, and, as low as 10,000 ppm, unconsciousness and death. These high levels may also cause cardiac

    arrhythmias (irregular heartbeats).

SYSTEMIC: Signs & symptoms of excessive exposure may be central nervous system effects. Excessive exposure may

cause carboxyhemoglobinemia, thereby impairing the bloods ability to transport oxygen. Observations in animals

    include liver and kidney effects.

CANCER INFORMATION: For Hazard Communication purposes, under OSHA Standard 29 CFR Part 1910.1200,

this main ingredient of this product is listed as a potential carcinogen by IARC and NTP. This ingredient, Methylene

Chloride has been shown to increase the incidence of malignant tumors in mice and benign tumors in rats. Studies haveshown that tumors observed in mice are unique to that species. Other animal studies, as well as several humanepidemiology studies, failed to show a tumorigenic response. The ingredient Methylene Chloride is not believed to pose a

measurable carcinogenic risk to man when handled as recommended. IARC or NTP does not list the second ingredient,

    Diphenylmethane diisocyanate.

    TERATOLOGY (BIRTH DEFECTS): None

    REPRODUCTIVE EFFECTS: None

    4. FIRST AID

EYES: Irrigate with flowing water immediately and continuously for 15 minutes. Consult medical personnel.

INGESTION: Do not induce vomiting. Call a physician and/or transport to emergency facility immediately.

SKIN: Wash off in flowing water or shower.

INHALATION: Remove to fresh air. If not breathing, give artificial respiration. If breathing is difficult, qualified

personnel should administer oxygen. Call a physician or transport to medical facility.

NOTE TO PHYSICIAN: Because rapid absorption may occur through lungs if aspirated and cause systemic effects, the

decision of whether to induce vomiting or not should be made by a physician. If ravage is performed, suggestendotracheal and/or esophageal control. Danger from lung aspiration must be weighed against toxicity when considering

emptying the stomach. Exposure may increase myocardial irritability. Do not administer sympathomimetic drugs

unless absolutely necessary. If burn is present, treat as any thermal burn, after decontamination. No specific antidote.Supportive care. Treatment based on judgement of the physician in response to reactions of the patient.Carboxyhemoglobinemia may aggravate any preexisting condition sensitive to a decrease in available oxygen, such as

chronic lung disease, coronary artery disease or anemias.
