El vocablo quimbanda o kimbanda proviene del kimbundo (un lenguaje bant de la zona de

Angola) y es relacionado con el doctor tradicional o "curandero" de las zonas deAngola. El

significado es: "Aqul que se comunica con el Ms All" o tambin aqul que puede comunicarse

con el "arte de curar", ya que ese es otro de los significados de la terminacin "MBANDA". La

Mbanda, es el tipo de ritual practicado por el kimbanda en Angola para efectuar curaciones e

invocaciones a ancestros espirituales (otros kimbandas o tatas) que podran comunicarse con las

personas a travs de su cuerpo, tal cual lo hacen los espritus a travs de un mdium.

Ms tarde la palabra Mbanda enBrasilse transformara en "Umbanda" por razones fonticas y

servira para identificar un tipo de culto en el que determinados Espritus de curanderos africanos y

Orgenes de "la Kimbanda" como culto en Brasil[editar]

Este tipo de rituales y prcticas llegaron al Brasil a travs de los esclavos trados desde las

regiones bantes de Angola yCongo. Ya en Brasil se adapta al medio y aquellos esclavos que eran

kimbanderos o kimbandas, comienzan a recibir influencias de las creencias indgenas locales, de

otros grupos de esclavos como los Nag, los Fon, Mals, entre otros y adems del hombre blanco,

de quien toman prestado el concepto del mal identificado como el Diablo o Demonio, el cual es

usado justamente para asustar al propio amo. De todo ese crisol surgen diversas formas de cultos

denominados "macumbas" o "makumbas", entre ellos un tipo de macumba que finalmente termina

siendo denominada "kimbanda". Antiguos sacerdotes curadores provenientes de las tribus de

Angola (kimbandas) ya se podan ver en los rituales de Umbanda. stos llegaban con el nombre de

Exu (macho) y Pombagira (hembra); lo que hace la Kimbanda es darles un culto propio a estas

entidades espirituales.

El Culto de Exu Kimbanda[editar]

Este culto no es considerado una religin sino que se trata de un culto paralelo, que se realiza

siempre con un "refuerzo", por as decirlo, ya que la Kimbanda no tiene un credo, sino que es un

culto adaptable a otras religiones afros. La palabra "exu" proviene del nombre del Orix Exu, Bar

para el Batuque, Ex para el Candombl, quien est encargado de fiscalizar este culto. Este culto no

es dependiente de la Umbanda, sino que es ms allegado de alguna manera a las corrientes

africanas (ya que aqu si hay asentamientos, el uso de la sangre, los "axs" que se entregan, entre

otras cosas). Este culto no habla del camino del bien o el mal ya que estos viven en cada persona, si

no que estos espritus guan a las personas a travs de los pasos o decisiones ms convenientes en

su vida. El ritual es naturalista, se utilizan smbolos ya que la kimbanda es simbolista, en su forma,

todo tiene un significado.

Consagraciones[editar]

En kimbanda no existe el bautismo o "lavado de cabeza" y tampoco se hace ebori (alimentar

espiritualmente la cabeza de alguien, como parte del Ser Humano que representa a la divinidad),

puesto que Exu no recibe cabezas, es decir, no tiene "hijos de orix", pues Exu no est consideradocomo un "orix"; pero si hay una lnea de jerarqua, ya que la entidad en jefe no es la que abre paso

al resto de entidades "nuevas", sino que es el Agente Csmico Universal que regula el equilibrio de

todas las cosas y hace posible que se d el movimiento y la transmutacin en el mundo material y

espiritual. Siendo as, la cabeza de la persona que practique kimbanda siempre es "lavada en orix"

y nunca es tocada en kimbanda aunque ciertamente existe un hilo conductor que une en un mismo

linaje o lnea a todas las entidades que recibe un medium con su orixa regente. Las consagraciones

en kimbanda se hacen del cuello hacia abajo y la "casa" donde habitara exu en el cuerpo de los

mediums se preparara a travs del "cruzamiento por dentro" y este parte del sincretismo del ritual.

Cada entidad tiene sus particularidades pero en la Kimbanda propiamente dicha, el avance astral de

la entidad y del medium se hace a travs de obligaciones, se puede ver cuan avanzado est ese

espritu a travs de pruebas que demandar el Jefe de Kimbandadel lugar, luego de aprobada cada

prueba se le otorgar a esa entidad y al mdium que la recibe una "imperial" o collar que llevar

segn el grado de aprendizaje que esta entidad posee. Cada "imperial" dir que grado tiene ese Ex

como tambin el lugar al que pertenece segn los colores que esta posea. Las "obligaciones son

rituales de pasaje de grado, por as decirlo, no tienen un fin, esa entidad es siempre perteneciente a

una familia y siempre hace obligaciones para avanzar en su astral. Como muchos cultos espiritistas,

los espritus no estn solos sino que son acompaados por sus "familias" australes.1

Entidades[editar]

Las Entidadesque llegan en la Kimbanda son todas denominadas genricamente "Exu", as se

presenten como espritus masculinos o femeninos. Sin embargo, para diferenciar las energas, a los

Exu femeninos o Exu-Mulher se les llama "Pomba-Gira". Estas entidades no terminaron su evolucin

en vida, y por eso trabajan para ser "Entidades de Luz", los cuales llegan en los mdiunsde

kimbanda a traer consejos, paz, adoctrinar y a ayudar espiritualmente a todos los adeptos. Cuando

estn presentes en sus mdiuns o "cavalos" usan vestimentas tpicas de la poca en que vivieron, la

cual se extiende desde fines del siglo XVII hasta fines del XIX, por eso es comn ver que usen

capas, galeras,capelinas y vestidos de damas antiguas. Tambin por sus ropas o lenguaje, en

general portugus, y en algunos casos francs, podemos saber que tipo de vida tuvieron esos

espritus antes de ser elevados en el astral para convertirse en energa. En pocos casos, los ms

avanzados en la incorporacin pueden recordar que fueron en sus vidas.
