Reflexions

La primera part d’aquest treball, aprofitant la realitat alterada i ampliada que ens retornen els nombrosos elements reflectors que trobem en qualsevol ciutat, convida a una reflexió sobre el rutinari de la nostra mirada a l’observar les formes urbanes en el nostre quotidià deambular. La presumpció subjacent en tots els usos de la fotografia –que cadascuna d’elles representa un fragment del món- fa que no sapiguem com reaccionar davant d’una fotografia si la imatge és visualment ambigua. Al no estar acostumats al que veiem així, pensem més aviat que és fruit d´una construcció o manipulació, quan en realitat no és més que un exercici de revelació on la realitat, la que tots hem vist, se’ns mostra d’una manera nova.

El fet que la majoria d’aquestes imatges incorporin siluetes, ombres, rastres humans ... m’ha motivat a afegir la presència humana, però ara com a protagonista, mitjançant uns primers plans on l’acostumat esforç del fotògraf per embellir el retratat lluita amb el seu contrari d’arrencar-li la màscara. Aquests retrats, capturats des de molt a prop mitjançant una lent d’aproximació, permet, al contrari de l’usual teleobjectiu, una implicació més gran del retratat, el qual, davant l’objectiu/mirall, no veu la seva imatge, la imagina.

Me l´ha confiat. I aquí l’hi retorno.

Les fotografies, analògiques, han estat realitzades amb una càmera Rolleiflex TLR 3.5 F i una Hasselblad SWC.La pel·lícula utilitzada ha estat la Kodak TRI-X. El revelador és artesanal, a base de metol.Còpies Giclée sobre paper Hahnemühle Photo Rag Baryta.

Reflections

The first part of this work, taking advantage of the altered and extended reality given to us by the numerous reflective elements that we find in any city, invites us to reflect on our routine way of looking in observing urban forms while wandering around in everyday life. The underlying presumption in all uses of photography – that each of them represents a fragment of the world- makes us not know how to react to a picture if the image is visually ambiguous. Not accustomed to seeing in this way, we think too soon that it is the result of manipulation or construction, when in fact it is nothing more than an exercise in revelation where the reality, that everybody has seen, is shown to us in a new way.

The fact is most of these images include silhouettes, shadows, human traces... I was motivated to add the human presence, but this time as the protagonist, through close-ups where the photographer’s efforts are used to embellish the portrayed struggles with his contrary and pull his mask off. These portraits, taken very closely using a close up lens, allows the portrayed a larger involvement, compared to the usual telephoto lens, which, before the challenge/the mirror, you don’t see their image, you imagine it.

He trusted me. And now I return it.

The analogue photographs were taken with a Rolleiflex TLR 3.5 F camera and a Hasselblad SWC camera. The film used was the Kodak TRI-X. The developing was done by hand with a metol basis.Giclée prints on Hahnemühle Photo Rag Baryta paper.
