Brief History 1920: Hudson Fysh and Paul

‘Ginty’ McGinness, two war veteran pilots, realize that Australia is the perfect place for an aerial service.

1922: Begins as a mail service and small passenger airline – only one passenger.

1928: Expanded into aerial ambulances.

1935: First passenger flight – 15 passengers go to Singapore with a sandwich and tea served to them by the First Officer.

1938: First Flight Attendant hired.

History – Cont’d 1947: Kangaroo Route launched. In

a Lockheed Constellation, 38 passengers fly to the U.K. in first-class only. Economy is added in 1953

1959: Qantas becomes the first non-U.S. airline to introduce the Boeing 707 jet.

1971: Expand to the Boeing 747-238B jet which carries about 2 and a half times more passengers.

2003: Skybed introduced providing outstanding comfort in every position.

2005: Qantas celebrates 85 years!

Logo The ‘kangaroo’ was adapted

from the Australian one penny coin.

Was also used by the Royal Australian Air Force in 1956.

The winged-kangaroo and circle were added after 1947.

The new Qantas logo was designed by Hans Hulsbosch and reflects the airline’s new and refined image.

Total Aircraft: 138 Qantas has signed for 50 Boeing 787’s which will

be delivered in the second half of 2012. The 787 will replace the 747 and the 767.

Cabin Crew Qantas cabin crew members operate over

400 flights weekly. Their flight attendants are natural, genuine people who compliment their ‘world-class premium brand’

To obtain a position as a flight attendant with Qantas , you will need to meet a lot of requirements: Understand the needs and comfort of their

customers who travel with them – whether they are regular flyers or customers who have never flown before

Easily build trust in a team and positively contribute to the teams performance

Cabin Crew – Cont’d You must be able to adapt to any situation that may

present itself in a sensible, warm and safe wayIn addition to the personality requirements, you must meet these as well:

Be at least 18 years of age Height between 163 cm – 183 cm (Or 5’3 – 6”) Australian permanent residency and a passport

ensuring unrestricted access to all of Qantas ports of call with at least 12 months validity

Current Senior First Aid Certificate with a validity of 12 months at time of application

Responsible Service of Alcohol ‘Statement of Attainment’, which you would need to have by the end of the recruitment process

recent experience in a face-to-face role Demonstrated empathy in service with people

from a variety of cultures and countries An excellent level of health and fitness, for

example: being able to swim 50m fully clothed A willingness to relocate, as required,

to ANY location Experience in Food and Beverage is

an asset

Cabin Crew – Cont’d You also will be required to do a series of

strenuous activities in training, such as lifting a window exit, dealing with emergencies in a smoke filled room, and going down an escape slide.

Qantas also offers different flight attendant positions such as International Australia, Domestic Australia, Regional Australia, International New Zealand, and International UK. These all have similar requirements.

Uniform The Qantas uniform consists of:

A ‘dusk’ print with silver and blue tones.

Australian wool suits in black (flight attendants) and charcoal (ground staff) have been combined with the Wirriyarra design in three colours.

The Wirriyarra design is an aboriginal style. The colours are - Dusk (for Qantas flight attendants), Ochre (for QantasLink flight attendants) and Opal (for airport and ground staff).

A dusk print dress has also been created for female flight attendants.

Target Market Qantas’ target market is a little bit of

everything. Although they are trying to focus more

on domestic flights, the company still relies on business and international travel as a source of revenue.

Future Plans Qantas will receive delivery of 9 Next Generation B737-

800 aircraft by the end of 2011, and another 19 in 2012 and 2013, bringing this to a total of 28 new aircraft by June 2013. The aircrafts will operate both Tasman and domestic services and will support the existing Boeing 737-800 fleet.

In business class they will have a 37” seat pitch and 22” width between armrests. They will have a touch screen entertainment system and extendable footrests as well as PC power and USB port, cocktail table and ergonomic cushions.

The new aircraft will feature entertainment by Panasonic. NEW: As of May 16th 2011, will fly from Australia to Dallas
