    THE ART OF CERAMICS

Pesaro has a long standing tradition ofpottery. The art of the earth and the fireoriginated in Pesaro in the fourteenth century. In the second half of the fifteenth century,Pesaro became one of the most important andinfluential centres of ceramic art. Many documents report a lot of potters andworkshops, intensive trades, a substantialproduction of prestigious objects, awards andsigns of appreciation. In the mid-900, artists such as Baratti,

Valentini, Sora, Polidori, Wildi and Bucci have

wisely interpreted the tradition with originalityand creativity, giving form to a new season ofceramics from Pesaro.Even today, the art of ceramics, is practicedby many potters, so that they keep theglorious past of the town alive.

The "rose", painted withenamel colors, is still thesymbol of majolicaproduction in Pesaro
