Nadie sabe realmente cuándo o por qué las personas comenzaron a
darse la mano para saludarse. Algunos historiadores creen que todo
comenzó hace 3800 años, en Babilonia. El primer día de cada año, el
rey tenía que “darle la mano” a la estatua de un dios para recibir el
poder (power).
Otros piensan que la costumbre comenzó por otra razón. Dicen que
cuando dos desconocidos se encontraban en un camino o en un lugar
fuera de la ciudad, se daban la mano derecha para mostrar que no
tenían armas. En esos tiempos, como las mujeres no usaban armas,
solo los hombres se daban la mano.
