+ A Scriptural Reflection + “HEAR THIS, YOU WHO TRAMPLE UPON THE NEEDY” “Today’s reading introduces us to one of Scripture’s most vocal prophets on social justice. Amos was known for his harsh tone and earthy imagery as well as his preaching. He purposefully turned inside-out the slogans of self-righteous wealthy Israelites. They claimed to await the ‘Day of the Lord’ when God will judge the world; but Amos assured them their treatment of the poor would be their ruin on that day. They claimed a special immunity because God brought them from Egypt, but Amos retorted that this privilege only made them all the more culpable after they wasted God’s special treatment.” – At Home with the Word

The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults is the usual way we welcome people. Anyone interested in partici-pating in this process (Sep – Apr) contact Colleen Glazer, Parish Program Manager, [212-787-0634].

Holy Trinity/Ascension Homeless Shelter

The Homeless Shelter has been one of Holy Trinity’s major Outreach Programs for thirty years. Because of better accommodations, the Shelter was shifted a few years ago to Ascension Church at 221 W. 107th Street. The Shelter will open for the season on October 19th. They are currently looking for a few volunteers to join the leadership team, and, as always, for volunteers to cook, set up, clean, sleep over and visit with the guests throughout the season. If you are interested or would like more information, please contact Chris at [email protected] or Robin at [email protected] or call 212-749-5938.

Holy Trinity Play Group The Holy Trinity Play Group is a chance for parents and their young children (babies to 4 years old) to get together, talk and play. We plan to meet in homes on Tuesday or Friday mornings starting September 24 or 27. Please reach out with an email if you’d like to be included to either [email protected] or to [email protected].

ATTENTION! Parish Advisory Council Representatives!

Next Sunday at 5:00 PM, we shall gather at Arte Café at 160 West 74th Street off Columbus Avenue for the first meeting of the Parish Year.

Grade 5 and Older SEE BULLETIN INSERT!

Boys and girls in the 5th grade and older are now invited to be trained and then formally blessed as Trinity Acolytes [Altar Servers]. It’s a great honor to assist the priest in the celebration of the Eucharist in the name of our parishioners. Serving Mass also displays an excellent model of prayer and good behavior for other children. Please consider it; give them the opportunity to shine for all to see and celebrate! Acolyte Chair, Kevin McKenna, and Monsignor Sandi will rehearse the children on all four October Saturdays OR Sundays, whichever is more convenient for the parents. More to follow.

Inútil mirar a otra parte.
