FH Bolivia has workedwith the Cirila CoriaToribio’s family ruralCo chabamba , fo r

several years. Cirilais the eldest of fivechildren. She dreamedof completing herstudies in order to beable to return to her community and improve it by helpingothers, but her father told her she had to drop out of school to helpher family when her mother became sick. For a year Cirila longedto return to school which made her cry each day, wondering if shewould have to look after sheep and help her parents indenitely.

FH staff carried out home visits to the Toribio family to supportCirila and train Cirila’s parents invarious areas. Cirila’s parents began

to understand the importance of hereducation and how that would enable

her to reach her full potential and serve hercommunity. Cirila told her father of her desire to complete

her studies and eventually he said if that is what she wanted, shecould return to the Lacuyo school the following day and also stayin the new boarding house built with CDP support. Her father says‘Now my daughter just keeps on studying!’

Cirila says ‘The opportunity to go the school and boarding housegave me the opportunity to learn many things and improve mylife. Before entering the boarding house I was very shy and timid.I learned about personal hygiene, keeping our home clean andwashing our hands. A coalition was also formed in the school whereFH train children in various areas. So when I started in the school I joined the coalition. The FH staff always taught us about the Bibleand the love of Jesus Christ. I decided to follow Christ as my Lordand Savior on my birthday, March 4th’

Cirila is now studying social work at university. She says ‘I saw therewere lots of problems and needs in families in my community, so Ichose to study social work to help nd ways to solve problems andsupport the families. I want to nish university quickly so that I cantake this knowledge and ideas back to apply them my community.’Her parents are now fully supportive of Cirila, her studies and herdream to help her community.
