The Verb jugar

• Study the conjugation of the verb jugar.

EXPLANATION: Use jugar to talk about playing a sport or a game. Jugar is a stem-changing verb in which u changes to ue in all forms except nosotros(as) and vosotros(as).

Jugar a + sport

• Read the following sentences, paying attention to the boldfaced words.

Pilar juega al básquetbol. (Pilar plays basketball.)

Jorge y yo jugamos al tenis. (Jorge and I play tennis.)

Tú y Ana jugáis al voleibol. (You and Ana play volleyball.)

EXPLANATION: When you use jugar with the name of a sport, use jugar a + sport. Remember that a + el (masculine article) becomes al.
