I had a great summer in Charles City and Mason City and now I am back at seminary, entering the final weeks of the semester. This semester has helped me to focus my attention on preparing for Deaconate ordination next May (the 25 th to be exact!). I am taking 8 classes: Homiletics, Rites Practicum, Theological Reflection III, Sacraments of Healing and Vocation, Pentateuch, Ecclesiology, Canon Law, and Canonical Preparation for Marriage. While some of those titles may sound foreign, the topics are very interesting and practical for priestly ministry. As part of our pastoral formation, all the seminarians have been assigned to local parishes in the Chicago area. I am assisting at St. Paul the Apostle in Gurnee, a large suburban parish with a thriving teen ministry. I’ve enjoyed my experience there and it’s nice to have a chance to interact with people at parishes during the school year. In January, I will go to the Holy Land with my classmates. I am anxious, but mostly excited to go! I continue to be thankful for my internship in Iowa Falls, Eldora, Hampton, and Ackley. I have many fond memories and the experience was invaluable to my own formation for priesthood. Thank you for your continued prayers and know that you are in my daily prayer as well.

A note from Fr. Tony As we move through this Advent Season, there will be opportunities to celebrate the Sacrament of Penance.

Please see this bulletin for the complete schedule for the Sacrament of Penance. Please note, on Saturday, December 16th at 10:30 am we will be having “Pancakes and Penance” at St. Mary Ackley. This day includes a Communal Penance Service with individual confessions followed by a simple pancake breakfast. There will be a number of priests present

including Fr. Kevin who can speak Spanish. We are also available 1 hour before each weekend Mass during Advent. Other times and locations are in this bulletin.

The schedule for Christmas weekend is also in this bulletin. Please note that Christmas Eve, December 24th is on a Sunday this year. We still have Masses scheduled for the 4th Sunday of Advent. All four parishes will have Mass for the 4th Sunday of Advent on Saturday evening, December 23rd. There will be no Mass the morning of Sunday, December 24th for the 4th Sunday of Advent. Remember it is not a “two for one” deal. As Catholics, we are still obligated to go to Mass

on both the 4th Sunday of Advent as well as Christmas. Have a great week!
