6 The Lord replied, “If you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you would say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be uprooted and planted in the sea,’ and it would obey you.

7 Who among you would say to your servant who has just come in from plowing or tending sheep in the field, ‘Come here immediately and take your place at table’?

8 Would he not rather say to him, ‘Prepare something for me to eat. Put on your apron and wait on me while I eat and drink. You may eat and drink when I am finished’?

9 Is he grateful to that servant because he did what was commanded?

10 So should it be with you. When you have done all you have been commanded, say, ‘We are unprofitable servants; we have done what we were obliged to do.’ ”

mean by faith. When the Apostles asked for an increase of faith, Jesus said: “If you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you would say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be uprooted and planted in the sea,’ and it would obey you” (Luke 17: 6). What does it mean to have faith?

Hoy vamos a reflexionar acerca de lo que queremos decir con fe. Cuando los Apóstoles pidieron un aumento de fe, Jesús contesto diciendo: “Si tuvieras fe del tamaño de un grano de mostaza, le dirías a este árbol de zarzamora, ‘Que seas derraizado y plantado en el mar,’ y te obedecería” (Lucas 17:6). ¿Qué quiere decir tener fe?

Remember that Jesus wants us to have child-like faith in our heavenly Father. When he taught us the Our Father, he shared how he himself prayed: with utter faith in his heavenly Father, such that he called him “Abba” (Daddy). We are to have such trust in God that we expect him to do certain things when we need him.

Recuerden que Jesús quiere que tengamos fe como la de un niño con nuestro Padre celestial. Cuando nos enseño el Padre Nuestro, compartió con nosotros como él mismo rezaba: con plena confianza en su Padre celestial, tal que le llamaba “Abba” (Papi). Hay que tener esa misma confianza en Dios que espera que él haga ciertas cosas cuando lo necesitamos.

Those who study children today tell us that it is in the infancy stage that basic trust has to be established in the child. The baby has to learn to trust its parents, first of all, and gradually, those around him. Without this basic trust, all the other steps in growth and development are insecure, without firm foundation.

Los que estudian de la niñez hoy nos dicen que en esa etapa llamada la infancia, se tiene que establecer confianza básica en el niño. El bebé tiene que aprender a confiar en sus padres, primeramente, y poco a poco, con los demás alrededor de él. Sin esta confianza básica, todos los otros pasos en crecimiento y desarrollo son inseguros, sin una firme fundación.

It is the same in the spiritual life. We have to have a basic trust in God our heavenly Father in times of need. We will need that trust over and over again when we meet with a crisis. Our entrance into the Kingdom frequently involves us in a crisis. A crisis can be a turning point when all the old, persons and attitudes are challenged. It can be an opportunity for change for the better. Our response to this challenge is crucial. It will determine whether we will go the way of creativity or stagnation.

Es lo mismo en la vida espiritual. Tenemos que tener una confianza básica en Dios nuestro Padre celestial en tiempos de necesidad. Todo mundo necesita esa confianza una y otra vez cuando entramos en una crisis. Nuestra entrada al Reino de los cielos frecuentemente nos involucra en una crisis. Una crisis puede ser un punto de conversión cuando todo lo antiguo, personas y las actitudes se enfrentan al reto. Puede ser una oportunidad para cambiar a algo mejor. Nuestra respuesta a este reto es critico. Determinará si vamos a crecer un la creatividad o si vamos a estancarnos.

Note that crisis times are at the same time moments of increased vulnerability and moments of heightened potential. Either way it is a time for commitment one way or the other. For better or for worse, it will give our life direction and meaning. We define ourselves in those moments of decision. We decide who we are. It says a lot about our values. It will show where we stand, what we hold dear.

Noten que tiempos de crisis son al mismo tiempo momentos de ser vulnerable y momentos de elevar nuestra potencia. De cualquier manera es un tiempo para entrega a una dirección o a otra. Por mejor o peor, nos dará dirección y sentido de vida. Momentos de decisión son momentos de definición. Es decir, es cuando decidimos quien soy yo. Dice mucho de cual son nuestros valores. Indica que es lo que estimo, y en que me sostengo.

If past ways of doing things don’t work anymore, it is a time to become “unglued”. We have to let go, and let God. God always calls us to Himself, to trust in him, to come closer to him. It may mean you have to give up your former dream world. The point of conversion is when you become aware of something better. It is a moment of grace. It is the call of the Lord!

Si lo del pasado ya no trabaja, de nada sirve. Es tiempo para ‘despegarnos’ de aquello a lo que estábamos ‘pegados’. Hay que dejarse uno ir, y dejar a Dios. Dios siempre nos llama a sí mismo, a confiar en él, a acercarse a él más y más. Quizás que quiera decir que hay que dejar ir tus sueños del pasado. El punto de conversión es cuando te das cuenta de algo mejor. Es un momento de gracia. ¡Es la llamada del Señor!

A dreamer who wakes up to a new horizon on the road ahead may find it painful. He or she may find it surprising that others don’t see it. Much to his surprise, with Jesus he will find a new sense of joy. He will be filled with a new sense of wonder at the turn of events.

Un soñador que despierta a un horizonte nuevo en su camino quizás lo encuentre doloroso. Él o ella quizás lo vean como una sorpresa que otros no lo ven tal como él o ella. Mucho a su sorpresa, encontrarán que con Jesús hay un nuevo sentido de gozo incomparable. ¡Que maravilla se siente con estos cambios!

Once the Lord gives us a new illumination, we can no longer act as if we were blind, we have to make appropriate changes. It may mean we give up certain old goals that were less than the best. It may mean we have to abandon old habits, old ambitions. That is why we need a basic trust in the Lord. Psalm 37:5 says: “Trust in the Lord, and he will act.”

Una vez que el Señor nos dé una iluminación, ya no podemos seguir como si estuviéramos ciegos. Tenemos que hacer los cambios apropiados. Pueda ser que tengamos que dejar ir ciertas metas que teníamos antes, que eran menos que lo mejor. Pueda ser que quiera decir que tengamos que abandonar costumbres antiguas, o ambiciones antiguas. Por eso necesitamos una confianza básica en el Señor. El Salmo 37:5 nos dice: “Encomienda tu camino al Señor, confía en él, y él actuará.”

“Let not your hearts be troubled; believe in God, believe also in me” says the Lord. “I am the way, the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, but by me” (John 14:1, 6). And further on in the same chapter, Jesus says: Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father in me” (John 14:11).

“No estén agitados; confíen en Dios y confíen en mi” dice el Señor. “Yo soy el camino, la verdad, y la vida; nadie viene al Padre, sino por mi” (Juan 14:1,6). Y más adelante en el mismo capitulo Jesús dice: “Créanme, yo estoy con el Padre y el Padre está conmigo” (Juan 14: 11).

All it takes is a little bit of trust, the size of a mustard seed! Basic trust. Do you have it? If you are weak in faith, this is an invitation from the Lord to pray for an increase of faith, just like the Apostles. Every day, pray for faith, much of it!

Todo esto toma un poquito de confianza, ¡ del tamaño del grano de mostaza ! Confianza básica. ¿La tienes? Si estas débil en la fe, ésta es una invitación de parte del Señor para pedir un aumento de fe, así como lo hicieron los Apóstoles. Cada día pide por fe. ¡ Mucha fe !

Once you have faith, you will go out and act with confidence in what you are doing. This is what it means to practice your faith. You will be more merciful and loving to everyone around you. You will be more sure of yourself. You will find the Lord acting in you and through you in a new and beautiful way. You will find yourself actually wanting to do things with enthusiasm and with joy.

Una vez que tengas fe, actuarás con más confianza en lo que estas haciendo. Esto es lo que quiere decir practicar la fe. Serás más servicial, misericordioso y amoroso con los que te rodean. Serás más seguro en si mismo. Encontrarás al Señor actuando en tí y por medio de tí en una manera nueva y bella. Te encontrarás actualmente queriendo hacer las cosas con entusiasmo y gozo.

We are servants of the Lord when we are humble. That means we are totally submissive to him out of love for him, without expecting anything in return. We do everything to please him and to serve him. That is our reward, serving the Lord.

Somos siervos del Señor cuando somos humildes. Esto quiere decir que nos sometemos a Él totalmente porque lo amamos, sin esperar nada en cambio de Él. Hacemos todo para complacerlo y servirlo. Esto es nuestro premio: servir al Señor.
