“No, no fue amor a primera vista. Éramos muy buenos amigos con metas y valores en común. Nos enamoramos mientras éra-mos estudiantes en Cal State L.A.,” con-fiesa Jenny Lam sobre cómo conoció a su esposo Stephen, actual candidato para el Consejo Municipal de Monterey Park. “Me gustó su personalidad; gracioso, divertido pero enfocado y ambicioso. Además, él es una persona responsable, un buen padre y un gran esposo,” añade. Stephen Lam es hijo único y creció jun-to a sus dos hermanas, Maggie y Bobo en Monterey Park. Su padre es ingeniero químico y su madre diseñadora de modas. Él, su esposa y hermanas administran una tienda de modas familiar en la ciudad por más de 25 años.

“No, it was not love at first sight. We were very good friends with common goals and values. We fell in love while students at Cal State L.A.,” confides Jenny Lam on how she met her husband Stephen, currently a candidate for Mon-terey Park City Council.“I liked his personality; funny, outgo-ing yet focused and ambitious. Besides, he is a responsible person, a good father and a great husband,” she adds.Stephen Lam is an only son and grew up with two sisters, Maggie and Bobo, in Monterey Park. His father is a chemical

engineer and his mother a fashion designer. He, his wife, and sisters manage their family fashion store in the city for over 25 years.

As most non-native English speaking the Lam family started a small business with family members working together to achieve the American Dream. “I married a beautiful woman but also an equal partner who like me likes to work hard to accomplish our goals as a family,” says Stephen Lam. “Jenny is my life part-ner. She supports me and always works hard by my side.”During the interview at the family’s main store, I saw the teamwork spirit that dom-inates all Lam family endeavors. Like a

well oiled engine Stephen and his family work hard to assure success. Mom Lisa brings home-made food, Bobo tends the cash reg-ister, Maggie chats with customers, Jenny works the phones while Stephen Lam conducts the interview. It is a labor of love.
