Cuando los soldados y Oficiales mexicanos

descocupaban el heroico Fortin de la Ciudadela

llamado tambien fortin de la Independencia y por

los americanos "Fort Black", salian con la frente

en alto y haciendole valla los soldados y oficiales

americanos al mando del General Persifor S. Smith

asi como a los voluntarios Ranger de Texas quienes

presenciaban la ceremonia, caonazos se escucharon

al arriar la Bandera Mexicana y fue saludada con

respeto por el ejercito norteamericano aquel

se habia resistido a abandonar esta fortaleza que

fue la unica que no pudieron tomar el ejercitoamericano, pero como habia sido parte de los

terminos de capitulacion que habia firmado el

General Mexicano Pedro de Ampudia y el General

Americano Zacarias Taylor la maana de 24 en la

sacristia de la Catedral de Monterrey . El General

Jose Lopez Uraga recordaba que el dia 19 dos dias

antes que iniciara el enfrentamiento, le habia

sorprendido que llegara al Fortin de la Ciudadelaun Capitan de Caballeria enviado por el General

Pedro de Ampudia asignado a este fortin pero al

descender del caballo descubrio que era una bella

mujer blanca de cabello obscuro y ojos negros quien

traia un salvoconducto del General Ampudia y aunque

se le explicaba que correria peligro ella de manera

firme contesto que " queria estar donde primero

La Ciudadela era un Fortin que habia sido

construido con lo mas avanzado de Ingenieria

Militar sus mas de 150 metros de cada lado y sus

parapetos que podian activar mas de 30 caones, los

cuales causaron muchas bajas al ejercito de

Ocupacion Americano, habia sido proyectado como laNueva Catedral de Monterrey pero no se concreto

solo sus abandonados muros sirvieron como defenza

de los soldados Mexicanos, cuando lo abandonaron y

lo ocuparon los soldados Americanos lo estudiaron

su adelantada construccion,su foso y puerta

elevadiza, ahi permanecerian por espacio de 2 aos

hasta la salida en 1848 cuando parte de las

partenencias americanas a regiomontanos,al paso deltiempo la ciudadela fue utilizada para otras

guerras hasta su destruccion y desaparicion total

al presente, solo se aprecia una Biblioteca y un

Teatro en la esquina de las Calle de Juarez y Tapia
