Infographics:Making a Dynamic Impact
E. Poché
What is an infographic?
An infographic is a visual image such as a chart or diagram used to represent information or data.
Advantages of Infographics
They can improve cognition by utilizing graphics to enhance the human visual system's ability to see patterns and trends.
Infographics are extremely shareable for use around the web. For example, an infographic published on a WordPress blog or website usually provides an embed code. This code allows an automatic link from the original site to yours. They are also easily shared on social networks and have a better chance of becoming viral compared to ordinary text.
Benefits Search Engine Optimization: The viral nature of the infographic medium makes people link to your site and Google will index your website higher due to Google’s “Page Rank” algorithm. This increases the importance that search engines pace on your site.
Ways to Optimize Infographics
Don’t overcrowd the infographic; let blank space act as a design element.
Have a flow to the infographic that only moves in one direction.
Include mostly graphics and images.
Work within a limited color palette to keep the infographic cohesive and simplistic.
Minimize text! Let the graphics and charts speak for themselves.
Optimize for sharing by embedding with social media buttons or having it easily linkable.
