THE MOST HOLY TRINITY—THE CENTRAL MYSTERY OF OUR FAITH
Dear parishioners,
Today we celebrate the most important mystery of our faith—the Most Holy Trinity. We celebrate God who revealed himself as “the eternal exchange of love between the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, and he has destined us to share in that exchange.” We lack words to express or even comprehend fully this most won-derful truth about God. The Church teaches that in God there are Three Divine Persons, distinct and equal in all things, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit; that the Father is not the Son, the Son is not the Holy Spirit, the Holy Spirit is not the Father or the Son. However, each of the Divine Persons is one and the self-same God. The Three Divine Persons are co-eternal; that the Father comes from none other; that the Son was begot-ten eternally of the Father; that the Holy Spirit comes eternally from the Father and the Son as from one source. All the attributes of the Divine Essence are present in the Three Divine Persons. We speak of God as one Nature, Three in Persons. Every Sunday we proudly recite this belief in the Creed during Mass. It helps us affirm our belief in the God who first loved us. Moses spoke to his people about God and how God loved and cared for them. As we listen to the words of Moses, we hear certain key ideas about God and the way he operates in the history of his chosen people. God creates, speaks, chooses, acts, and commands. Jesus echoes Moses’ words and goes further to live them out. He says in the Gospel “Everything has been given to me by my Father.” With this power he commands his disciples to go into the world and proclaim the good news and make new disciples in the name of the most Holy Trinity. The mission is well spelled out for us. It begins with new appreciation of God’s nature. His closeness to us, his transcendence and personal love speaks of God who desires a loving relationship with us. Saint Paul speaks of the Spirit of God’s Son now empowering us to address God with the same intimacy as Jesus himself. Now we can approach God with love and respect because we are his adopted sons and daugh-ters. “For you did not receive a spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you received a Spirit of adoption, through whom we cry, “Abba, Father!” The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God.” The faith of all Christians rests on the Trinity. In the “name” and not “names” of the three Persons of the Blessed Trinity we are baptized. For there is only one God, the almighty Father, his Son, and the Holy Spir-it. This remains the central mystery of Christian faith and life. It is the mystery of God in himself. It is, there-fore, the source of all the other mysteries of faith, the light that enlightens them. Moses enjoins the Israelites to keep the Lord’s Statues and Commandments so that they may prosper. Je-sus gives life in abundance to those who follow him. There is life and power in this revealed name. Be not afraid to call on his name for help. He promised to stay with us till the end of the age. Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit; as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be world without end. Amen Grace and peace to you, Fr. Vitalis Anyanike

LA SANTÍSIMA TRINIDAD—EL MISTERIO CENTRAL DE NUESTRA FE
Estimados feligreses, Hoy celebramos el misterio más importante de nuestra fe—la Santísima Trinidad. Ce-
lebramos a Dios quien se reveló como «el intercambio eterno de amor entre el Padre, el Hijo y el Espíritu Santo, y estamos destinado a compartir en ese intercambio.» No tenemos palabras para expresar ni com-prender completamente esta verdad maravillosa sobre Dios. La Iglesia enseña que en Dios hay Tres Personas Divinas, distintas e iguales en todo, quienes son el Pa-dre, el Hijo y el Espíritu Santo; el Padre no es el Hijo, el Hijo no es el Espíritu Santo, el Espíritu Santo no es el Padre ni el Hijo. Pero cada una de las Personas Divinas son uno y el mismo Dios. Las Tres Personas Divinas son coeternas; el Padre no venía de cualquier otro, el Hijo es unigénito eterna-mente del Padre, y el Espíritu Santo viene eternamente del Padre y del Hijo como de una fuente. Todos los atributos de la Esencia Divina están presentes en las Tres Personas Divinas. Hablamos de Dios como una Naturaleza, Tres en Personas. Cada domingo recitamos con orgullo esta creencia en el Credo durante la misa. Nos ayuda afirmar nuestra creencia en el Dios quien nos amó primero. Moisés habló a su gente sobre Dios y cómo Dios los amo y cui-do de ellos. Mientras escuchamos a las palabras de Moisés, oímos algunas ideas sobre Dios y la manera en la que opera en la historia de su pueblo elegido. Dios crea, habla, escoge, hace y ordena. Jesús repite las palabras de Moisés y va mas allá para vivirlas. Dice en el Evangelio «Todo lo que me ha sido dado por mi Padre.» Con este poder, manda a sus discípulos a ir al mundo, proclamar las buenas noticias y hacerse nuevos discípulos en el nombre de la santísima Trinidad. Entendemos esta misión. Empieza con una nueva apreciación de la naturaleza de Dios. Su cercanía con nosotros, su trascendencia y amor personal habla de Dios quien desea una relación de amistad y amor con nosotros. San Pablo habla del Espíritu del Hijo de Dios ahora nos confiere el poder para dirigir a Dios con la misma intimidad que Jesús mismo. Ahora podemos acercarnos a Dios con amor y respeto porque somos sus hijos e hijas adoptivos. «Porque no recibimos un espíritu de esclavitud para caer en el temor , sino que recibiste un Espíritu de adopción por el cual lloramos”. ¡Abba, Padre! El Espíritu mismo da testimonio con nuestro espíritu de que somos hijos de Dios.» La fe de todos los cristianos está puesta en la Trinidad. En el “nombre “ y no en los “nombres” de las Tres Personas de la Santísima Trinidad, somos bautizados. Porque hay un solo Dios, el Padre todopoderoso, su Hijo y el Espíritu Santo. Este sigue siendo el misterio centra de la fe y vida cristiana. Es el misterio de Dios en si mismo. Entonces es la fuente de todos los otros misterios de la fe, la luz que les ilumina. Moisés manda a los Israelitas guardar los estatutos y mandamientos del Señor para que puedan prosperar. Jesús da la vida en abundancia a aquellos que le siguen. Hay vida y poder en este nombre revelado. No tengas miedo de llamar su nombre para pedir ayuda. Prometió quedarse con nosotros al final de la era.
