Are you a parishioner with enthusiasm about the
future direction of the Parish, a willingness to listen,
to speak honestly and to work toward consensus
with flexibility and openness toward people and
ideas?
St. Peter Parish Council is seeking 3 candidates for
election this Spring to the council. The Parish Coun-
cil is an advisory body to the Pastor, they give wis-
dom and credibility to necessary decisions. As
written in the Book of Proverbs (11:14): “For lack of
guidance, a people falls; security lies in many coun-
selors.” Any registered parishioner 18 years of age
or older may run. Applications can be picked up in
the parish office or emailed to you. Contact the

applying, an interview with Fr. Levine will be sched-
uled. Applications due no later than April 19th 2021.
Elections will be from May 1st to 9th. Results will
be announced at the Masses on May 15th and 16th.

English Speaking and Spanish Speaking Sacramental Prep, including SMA parents: Paperwork for All First Communicants in Level 1 & 2: Parents if you have not already gotten a COPY of your child's Baptismal Certifi-cate to us we need you to do so as soon as possible. Paperwork for Confirmation Candidates Needed as soon as possible: If you have not turned in a COPY of your Baptismal Cer-tificate we need you to do that as soon as possible please. Two Saints to invoke against contagion
St. Roch (died 1327AD) ministered to victims of an epidemic, was responsible for miracu-lous cures, contracted the disease himself, withdrew to the woods were he was himself miraculously healed. He has since been in-voked in favor of victims of the plague and other epidemics.
St. Rosalie (died 1166AD) lived as a her-mitess and died alone in her cave on Mt. Pel-ligrino outside Palermo, Sicily. In 1624, when a plague threatened the city she appeared to a hunter, revealed to him the location of her bones and ordered they be carried in proces-sion. After her bones were carried three times around the city the plague ceased. She is the patron saint of Palermo.

En 1624, cuando una plaga amenazó la ciudad, se le apareció a un cazador, le reveló la ubicación de sus huesos y ordenó que fueran llevados en procesión. Después de que sus huesos fueron transportados tres veces por la ciudad, la peste cesó. Ella es la patrona de Palermo.
From the Pastor’s Desk – Fr. Levine- We were buried with Christ in baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in the newness of life. (Rm 6:4) With these words St. Paul states, very succinctly, the practical importance of Jesus’ resurrection for our life in this world. Through his resurrection we were called to baptism and having been baptism we are called to walk in the newness of life. This newness of life is not just some nice phrase, it has a very specific meaning. It refers to the life of grace, sanctifying grace, by which we share in the very life of God. The newness of life is opposed to the oldness of sin. The newness of life comes to us from Jesus Christ, risen from the dead and ascended to the right hand of his Father; it is poured out upon us by the Holy Spirit, which he has given to his Church; it is communicated to us in a very concrete and tangible fashion through the seven sacraments. Above all it is nourished in us by the sacrament of sacraments, the Blessed Sacrament, the Holy Eucharist, the Body and Blood of Christ. Yet, we are called to ‘walk’ in the newness of life. That means this is not something automatic but requires our cooperation. The newness of life in the Holy Spirit is not opposed to the law of God, rather it is the Holy Spirit that gives us the power to life in accord with the law of God. Jesus Christ said, Think not that I have come to abolish the law and the prophets; I have come not to abolish them, but to fulfill them … whoever then relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches men to do so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but he who does them and teaches them shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. (Mt 5:17,19) When the rich young man came and asked him what he needed to do to inherit eternal life, Jesus told him to keep the commandments, he then listed: you shall not kill, shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal, you shall not bear false witness, honor your father and your mother, and, love your neighbor as yourself. (Mt 19:18-19) The first ones mentioned are counted among the ten commandments, while the last one sums up those previously mentioned. (cf. Rm 13:9) The ten commandments we could say are the guideposts for the life of love of God and love of neighbor. St. John Paul II wrote: “The commandments … represent the basic condition for love of neighbor; at the same time they are the proof of that love.” (Veritatis Splendor 13) That is why St. Paul writes: Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of the law. (Rm 13:10) In other words, if someone claims to love his neighbor, but breaks one of the ten commandments, including you shall not commit adultery, he is a liar. (cf. 1 Jn 2:4-5) Jesus also told the rich young man to follow him. We must follow the example of Jesus in obeying the com-mandments of God. So St. John writes: He who says he abides in him ought to walk in the same way in which he walked. (1 Jn 2:6) St. Paul, who taught salvation by faith, summed all this up in his letter to the Galatians: The whole law is ful-filled in one word, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself’ … I say, walk by the Spirit and do not gratify the desires of the flesh. (Gal 5:14,16) Walking by the Spirit would be the same as walking in the newness of life, the life of grace. For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh; for these are opposed to each other, to prevent you from doing what you would. But if you are led by the Spirit you are not under the law. Now the works of the flesh are plain: fornication, impurity, licentiousness, idolatry, sor-cery, enmity, strife, jealous, anger, selfishness, dissension, party spirit, envy, drunkenness, carousing, and the like. I warn you. As I have warned you before, that those who do these things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. (Gal 5:17-21) A person comes to be ‘under the law’ by doing the works of the flesh, which are against the moral law. Con-trariwise, one who is guided by the Holy Spirit lives within the moral law, fulfilling it from within. So, St. Paul continues: But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such as these there is no law. (Gal 5:22-23) Here, within the guideposts of the commandments, which keep us from straying from the path of love, there opens up a whole world of good in the following of Christ, the Son of God, walking as he walked, living as he lived. That, however, involves a continual struggle because we have the ‘flesh’, the tendency to sin, within our-selves, that would draw us a way from following Christ. So, St. Paul concludes: Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. (Gal 5:24)
Desde el Escritorio del párroco El Padre José – Fuimos sepultados con Cristo en el bautismo en la muerte, para que así como Cristo resucitó de entre los muertos por la gloria del Padre, nosotros también po-damos caminar en la vida nueva. (Rom 6, 4) Con estas palabras San Pablo afirma, muy sucintamente, la im-portancia práctica de la resurrección de Jesús para nuestra vida en este mundo. Por su resurrección fuimos llamados al bautismo y habiendo sido bautizados estamos llamados a caminar en la novedad de la vida. Esta novedad de vida no es solo una bonita frase, tiene un significado muy específico. Se refiere a la vida de gra-cia, gracia santificante, por la cual compartimos la vida misma de Dios. La novedad de la vida se opone a la vejez del pecado. La novedad de vida nos llega de Jesucristo, resucitado de entre los muertos y ascendido a la diestra de su Padre; es derramado sobre nosotros por el Espíritu Santo, que él ha dado a su Iglesia; se nos comunica de manera muy concreta y tangible a través de los siete sacramentos. Sobre todo se nutre en nosotros del sacra-mento de los sacramentos, el Santísimo Sacramento, la Sagrada Eucaristía, el Cuerpo y la Sangre de Cristo. Sin embargo, estamos llamados a 'caminar' en la novedad de la vida. Eso significa que esto no es algo automáti-co, sino que requiere nuestra cooperación. La vida nueva en el Espíritu Santo no se opone a la ley de Dios, sino que es el Espíritu Santo el que nos da el poder de vivir de acuerdo con la ley de Dios. Jesucristo dijo: No crean que he venido a suprimir la Ley o los Profetas. He venido, no para deshacer, sino para traer lo definitivo ... el que ignore el último de esos mandamientos y enseñe a los demás a hacer lo mismo, será el más pequeño en el Reino de los Cielos. En cambio el que los cumpla y los enseñe, será grande en el Reino de los Cielos. (Mt 5: 17,19) Cuando llegó el joven rico y le preguntó qué tenía que hacer para heredar la vida eterna, Jesús le dijo que guardara los mandamientos, luego enumeró: no matarás, no cometerás adulterio, no hurtarás, no darás falso testimonio, honrarás a tu padre y a tu madre, y amarás a tu prójimo como a ti mismo. (Mt 19: 18-19.) Los pri-meros mencionados se cuentan entre los diez mandamientos, mientras que el último resume los mencionados anteriormente. (cf. Rm 13,9) Los diez mandamientos que podríamos decir son los hitos de la vida de amor a Dios y al prójimo. San Juan Pablo II escribió: “Los mandamientos… representan la condición básica del amor al prójimo; al mismo tiempo son la prueba de ese amor ”. (Veritatis Splendor 13) Por eso San Pablo escribe: El amor no perjudica al prójimo; Por lo tanto, el amor es el cumplimiento de la ley. (Rom 13:10) En otras palabras, si alguien dice amar a su prójimo, pero quebranta uno de los diez mandamientos, incluyendo no cometerás adulterio, es un mentiroso. (cf. 1 Jn 2: 4-5) Jesús también le dijo al joven rico que lo siguiera. Debemos seguir el ejemplo de Jesús al obedecer los mandamientos de Dios. Así escribe San Juan: si alguien dice: «Yo permanezco en él», debe portarse como él se portó. (1 Jn 2: 6) San Pablo, que enseñó la salvación por la fe, resumió todo esto en su carta a los Gálatas: toda la Ley está resumida plenamente en este precepto: Amarás a tu prójimo como a ti mismo ... Yo los exhorto a que se dejen conducir por el Espíritu de Dios, y así no serán arrastrados por los deseos de la carne. (Gálatas 5: 14,16) Andar en el Espíritu sería lo mismo que andar en la vida nueva, la vida de gracia. Porque la carne desea contra el espíritu y el espíritu contra la carne. Ambos luchan entre sí, y por eso, ustedes no pueden hacer todo el bien que quieren. Pero si están animados por el Espíritu, ya no están sometidos a la Ley. Se sa-be muy bien cuáles son las obras de la carne: fornicación, impureza y libertinaje, idolatría y superstición, enemis-tades y peleas, rivalidades y violencias, ambiciones y discordias, sectarismos, disensiones y envidias, ebriedades y orgías, y todos los excesos de esta naturaleza. Les vuelvo a repetir que los que hacen estas cosas no poseerán el Reino de Dios. (Gálatas 5: 17-21) Una persona llega a estar 'bajo la ley' al hacer las obras de la carne, que son contrarias a la ley moral. Por el con-trario, quien es guiado por el Espíritu Santo vive dentro de la ley moral, cumpliéndola desde dentro. Entonces, continúa San Pablo: Por el contrario, el fruto del Espíritu es: amor, alegría y paz, magnanimidad, afabi-lidad, bondad y confianza, mansedumbre y temperancia. Frente a estas cosas, la Ley está demás. (Gálatas 5: 22-23) Aquí, dentro de las pautas de los mandamientos, que nos impiden desviarnos del camino del amor, se abre todo un mundo de bondad en el seguimiento de Cristo, el Hijo de Dios, caminando como él caminó, viviendo como él vivía. Eso, sin embargo, implica una lucha continua porque tenemos la 'carne', la tendencia al pecado, dentro de no-sotros mismos, que nos alejaría de seguir a Cristo. Por tanto, concluye san Pablo: Los que pertenecen a Cristo Jesús han crucificado la carne con sus pasiones y sus malos deseos. (Gálatas 5:24)
