Esta Guía de la Artesanía de Lanzarote es un ca-tálogo de los oficios artesanos que se mantienen vivos en la isla gracias al empeño y a la pasión de sus maestros, responsables de la transmisión del legado del conocimiento de generación en generación.

En el marco de un mundo globalizado en el que las culturas sucumben bajo el peso y la presión de modas internacionales, los trabajos artesanos emergen y se consolidan como piezas deslum-brantes de una singularidad necesaria para reco-nocernos como pueblo.

La producción manufacturera lanzaroteña no re-nuncia, pese a todo, a incorporar la innovación en diseños y materiales, en una evolución respe-tuosa con la tradición pero adaptada a las nuevas necesidades y demandas de los consumidores.

Además, eso que hemos dado en llamar “expe-riencia turística Lanzarote”, construida sobre un pasado rural y pesquero no tan lejano, necesita comprenderse y alimentarse de vestigios de me-moria, de pruebas fehacientes que transporten al viajero de la velocidad de nuestros días al tiempo pausado y la vida sencilla de nuestros padres y abuelos. Rosetas, sandalias de cuero, empleita, muebles o cerámica, son las losetas de ese ca-mino al pasado.

This Lanzarote Crafts Guide, is a catalogue of arti-san crafts that are kept alive on the island thanks to the commitment and the passion of its masters, responsible for the transmission of the legacy of knowledge from generation to generation.

Within the framework of a globalized world in which cultures succumb to the weight and pressure of in-ternational trends, artisan works emerge and con-solidate themselves as dazzling pieces of a whole that are necessary for us to recognize ourselves as people.

The manufacturing processes of Lanzarote crafts do not, however, renounce the incorporation of in-novation in designs and materials, in a respectful path to tradition but adapting to the new needs and demands of consumers.

In addition, that which we have called “The Lanza-rote tourism experience”, built on a recent past of fishing and farming, needs to be understood and nourished by remnants of memory, reliable eviden-ce that transports the traveller from the velocity of our present day to the slow and simple life of our parents and grandparents. Crocheted rosettes, leather sandals, palm-weaving, furniture or cera-mics, are the stepping-stones on that path to the past.

Este es el primero de los muchos pasos de un ca-mino que te invitamos a recorrer. Un camino para mostrar paisajes ocultos de Lanzarote, creados en talleres artesanos de nuestra isla, estampas nacidas de la tierra, del fuego, del aire y la luz isleña que nos inspira.

Esta Guía quiere abrirte una ventana para que conozcas los oficios artesanos de Lanzarote, quiere ofrecerte texturas, colores, despertar tus sentidos a la magia del trabajo hecho con nues-tras manos, quiere indicarte el camino para que sepas dónde encontrarnos si buscas Artesanía.

Este primer paso abre también un puente para quienes no figuran en estas páginas. Una oportu-nidad como artesanos y artesanas para acercar-nos, conocernos y seguir construyendo juntos el futuro que queremos para la Artesanía.

This is the first of many steps of a path that we in-vite you to travel. A way to show hidden landscapes of Lanzarote, created in the artisan workshops of our island, footprints born out of the earth, the fire, the air and the island light that inspires us.

This guide hopes to open a window onto the crafts of Lanzarote. It offers you textures and colors, awakens your senses to the magic of the work done with our hands, will signpost the way so you know where to find us if you are looking for quality crafts.

This first step also builds a bridge for those who do not appear on these pages. It brings an opportunity for artisans and craftsmen to get closer, to get to know each other and to continue building together the future we want for artisanship.

En un mundo cada vez más globalizado, donde cualquier producto recorre miles de kilómetros para llegar a determinados mercados en contra de cualquier criterio de sostenibilidad o respeto al medio ambiente, desde AICAl pensamos que es necesario ofrecer una alternativa no solo para el turismo que nos visita, sino para el pueblo y la sociedad de Lanzarote. Por ello, apostamos por la apertura de espacios culturales donde se potencien los productos artesanos de la isla y las manifestaciones culturales locales, como vía para convertirnos en un destino de calidad y un referente cultural a todos los niveles.

Queremos plasmar en esta guía nuestro com-promiso con la Artesanía, y transmitir desde aquí nuestro sentir artesano, el que nos empuja a otra manera de hacer las cosas, a disfrutar del trabajo hecho a fuego lento, a ritmo de inspira-ción y conocimiento, destreza y atrevimiento y, sobre todo, hecho con amor, porque como dice un famoso cantautor cubano: Sólo el amor alum-bra lo que perdura, sólo el amor convierte en mi-lagro el barro.

The Intercultural Association of Artisanship of Lanzarote (AICAL), started as a non-profit orga-nisation at the end of 2015, with the aim of pro-moting all manifestations of culture on the island, especially crafts.

In an increasingly globalized world, where any pro-duct travels thousands of kilometers to reach its points of sale (against any criteria of sustainability or respect for environment) we from AICAL think that it is necessary to offer an alternative. Not only for the tourists that visit us, but also for the people and the community of Lanzarote. For this reason, we are committed to the opening of cultural spaces to promote the artisan products of the island and local cultural events, as a step towards Lanzarote becoming a destination of quality and a cultural re-ference at all levels.

In this guide, we express our commitment to ar-tisanship.
