Welcome to the �rst term of 2008.

I take this opportunity to greet a l l o f y o u i n t h e n a m e o f o u r L o r d J e s u s C h r i s t . I a m v e r y grateful for the warm welcome g i v e n t o m y w i f e a n d m e o n o u r r e t u r n t o Pe r u a f t e r a n i n t e r v a l o f 3 1 y e a r s . I t i s o u r privilege to respond to the call of the Lord to serve him again in Colegio San Andres, and in this task we seek His honour and glory.Allow me to introduce ourselves to those of you who do not yet know us. We are Clive and Ruth Bailey from the town of Ayr in southwest Scotland, married with four daughters and �ve grandchildren. In the 1970s we were in Peru, when I was a teacher of English in Colegio San Andres, and in 1980 we returned to Scotland, and I have gained experience in i n d e p e n d e n t s c h o o l s i n v a r i o u s a s p e c t s o f s c h o o l management. In 2007 the International Missions Board of the Free Church of Scotland invited me to return to Peru as the new Headmaster. In my �rst few weeks here I have learned a little of the present condition of our school and of course I have still have a lot to learn. Please be patient with your new Headmaster as he learns things you already know! Several parents and the representatives of the Parents’ Association have come to see me with their observations and suggestions: for these we are very grateful.W h e n t h e s c h o o l w a s f o u n d e d i n 1 9 1 7 , t h e f a m o u s philosopher John A. Mackay had a vision, and that same vision is what inspires us today: that is, to bring and to apply a biblical world-view in the education which we o�er to Pe r u v i a n y o u ng p e o p l e. S u c h a n e d u c a t i o n m u s t b e relevant to the 21st century in which we are placed, but the principles remain unchanged: submission to the word of God in all that we do; teaching our children and pupils that ‘ t h e f e a r o f t h e Lo r d i s t h e b e g i n n i n g o f w i s d o m ’ . O u r teaching must be of the highest standard, and our conduct and witness must be the best they can be.You who are reading this bulletin can support us in this work by your prayers. At the beginning of the new school year, pray for each member of the San Andrés family, from the y o u n g e s t c h i l d i n N u r s e r y t o t h e m e m b e r s o f t h e Management team: all for the glor y and honour of His Name.

Bienvenido al primer bimestre del 2008.

Aprovecho esta oportunidad para saludarles en el nombre de nuestro Señor Jesucristo. Agradezco mucho la bienvenida calurosa a mi señora y a mi al volver a P e r ú d e s p u é s d e 3 1 a ñ o s . E s n u e s t r o p r i v i l e g i o responder a la llamada del Señor para servirle en el Colegio San Andrés, en cuya tarea buscamos su honra y gloria.Permítanme presentarnos a ustedes que todavía no nos conocen. Somos Clive y Ruth Bailey del pueblo de Ayr en el sudoueste de Escocia, casados con cuatro hijas y cinco nietos. Durante los años 70, estuvimos en Perú, y fuí profesor de Inglés en el Colegio San Andrés. Én 1980 volvimos a Escocia, y he tenido experiencia en colegios part iculares en diversos aspectos de la dirección educativa. En el año 2007 la Junta de Misiones de la Iglesia Libre de Escocia me invitó a volver a Perú para contribuir en la Dirección General. En las primeras semanas aquí he aprendido un poco de la situación de nuestro colegio y por supuesto me falta mucho por conocer. Por favor, ¡tenga paciencia con su nuevo Director General! Me han visitado a mi o�cina algunos padres de familia y los representantes del Centro de Padres, quienes me ofrecen sus obser vac iones y sugerencias: por éstas estoy muy agradecido. Cuando se fundó el colegio en 1917 el ilustre pensador John A. Mackay tuvo una visión, y esa misma visión nos inspira a continuar: es decir, presentar y aplicar una cosmovisión bíblica en la educación que se ofrece en el servicio a la juventud peruana. Esta educación tiene q u e s e r p e r t i n e n t e a l s i g l o e n e l q u e n o s encontramos, pero los principios son los mismos; la sumisión a la autoridad de la palabra de Dios en todo lo que hacemos, y la enseñanza a nuestros hi jos y alumnos que ‘el temor de Dios es el principio de la sabiduría’. La enseñanza debe ser de calidad, nuestra conducta y nuestro testimonio deben ser de lo mejor.Uds. que leen este boletín pueden apoyarnos en esta tarea con sus oraciones. Al comienzo del nuevo año e s c o l a r , o r e n p o r c a d a p e r s o n a e n l a f a m i l i a sanandresina, desde el más joven en Kindergarten hasta los miembros del Equipo de Gestión: y todo para la gloria y honra de Su Nombre.

T h e D e p a r t m e n t o f M o d e r n L a n g u a g e s p r e s e n t e d “OLIVER!”, a musical based on the book “Oliver Twist” by Charles Dickens. It is the first musical that the school has presented entirely in English. Both Primary and Secondary s tudents par t ic ipated, a longside some teachers . The Department of Music also helped on the vocal side of things, along with the Choir. Mrs. Carmen Rodríguez set up the choreographies, so that the presentation involved all the skills, and completely live.

EVENTOS 2007 El Depar tamen to de Lenguas Modernas puso en escena “OLIVER!”, obra musical basada en el libro “Oliver Twist” de Charles Dickens. Es la primera obra musical que presenta el colegio completamente en inglés. Se contó con la participación de alumnos tanto de Primaria como de Secundaria, e incluso de

algunos profesores. El Departamento de Música también ayudó para la parte vocal, junto con el Coro. La Sra. Carmen Rodríguez participó en las coreografías, para q u e f u e r a u n a presentación completa, y todo en vivo.EL QUIJOTE.

Obra teatral que con mucho entusiasmo presentó el taller de teatro. El éxito obtenido nos muestra la calidad y empeño que los alumnos de Secundaria ponen en cada estreno.

ADCA /ARTE Y MUSICA.: Como todos los años, los trabajos más destacados fueron presentados en la exposición de arte ADCA 2007.Felicitaciones a todos los alumnos que participaron en este evento lleno de inspiración y color.

SOLIDARIDAD: La ayuda social enviada a los niños de Huallcará (Cañete) realizada en el mes de setiembre, fue efectiva gracias al apoyo incondicional de la gran familia sanandresina que una vez más da muestras de su compasión y misericordia con los más necesitados. C A S A L L A : E n e l m e s d e diciembre se entregó la ayuda q u e s e r e c a u d ó p a r a l o s damnificados de Ica. Viajó una delegación para hacer entrega de víveres, ropa y juguetes a los niños de la zona, también se implementó una biblioteca en una pequeña iglesia.

CONCURSO DE DECLAMACIÓN / Secundaria: Felicitaciones a todos los alumnos participantes, especialmente a quienes clasificaron y sobresalieron en la gran final: 1º Haarim, Zegarra Herrera.(5ºB) 2º. Paola, Vilchez Ramírez.(5ºA) 3º Christopher, Gerónimo Gonzales ( 4ºB) y Guadalupe, Montenegro Muro. (4ºA).V

CELEBRANDO LO NUESTRO: El Día de la M ú s i c a C r i o l l a f u e u n a c e l e b r a c i ó n d e peruanidad. Nuestros alumnos mostraron la riqueza de nuestras danzas. Fue una noche multicolor, disfrutando el folclor peruano.

VIAJE DE PROMOCIÓN: Como todos los años la Promoción viajó a Cuzco para compartir un tiempo de aventuras, alegrías y sorpresas.

Fue el tema central de la Semana de la Ciencia que celebramos en el mes de setiembre.
