He was also a recog- nized breeder of Beagle hounds and Southdown sheep and honored as a Life Member of the American Southdown Breeders Association. Surviving is his wife Marie Maxwell Hibbs whom he married May 7, 1942. Marie was a strong inspiration to John and accompanied him on his many travels, including his assign- ments in India. They have two sons, David W. Hibbs of Grand Rapids, Michigan, and Samuel E. Hibbs of Westerville, Ohio.
