People usually think that England is the UK or is Great Britain. This is

untrue, but is a common thought by many people overseas.

The Flag of England is the St George's Cross.

The legend of Saint George slaying the dragon dates from the 12th

century and Saint George became the patron saint of England in the

    13th century.

First hoisted in 1191, the historic Flag of St. Georgebecame England'sflag in 1278. The flag is dominated by a upright, deep-red cross. When

combined with the flags of Scotland and the Patron Saint of Ireland,

they collectively form the UK flag.

The red cross appeared in the crusades and is one of the earliest

    known emblems representing England.

The flag is thought to be derived from that of the Knights Templar.

Britain is an island country and the surrounding sea gives England a

    varied climate.

They never know what the weather will be like from one day to the

other. It can be sunny one day and rainy the next. As they have such a

variable climate changing from day to day, it is difficult to predict theweather.

In general they have warm summers and cool winters. Their summers

are cooler than those on the continent, but the winters are milder.
