The government has announ-ced that it intends to join the International Monetary Fund (IMF) by becoming a

member of the constituency of the monetary body, which includes co-untries such as Belgium, the Net-herlands and Luxembourg (Bene-lux), among others. In this sense, the Minister of Spokesman and Finan-ce, Eric Jover, pointed out that «this constituency has the advantage that it includes countries of very small di-mensions, it has interesting financi-al conditions for us and presents ele-ments that make us feel comfortable with this group. We have held a seri-es of previous meetings which have resulted in a very proactive support in recent months for us to ratify this decision. « Jover explained, along the same lines, that various constituen-cies were analysed taking into acco-unt the neighbouring countries. In this sense, he pointed out that «Fran-ce works individually because it has a significant economic force and has decided not to make alliances» and Spain is part of a group of Latin Ame-rican countries «that have financi-al problems that are more far from ours ».

He added that joining the cons-tituency of which Belgium, the Net-herlands and Luxembourg are part would allow some Andorran profes-sionals to work at a «leading interna-tional» financial institution. In ad-dition, Jover added that «the same constituency has technical advisers and infrastructure in Washington that could be made available to the government.» Finally, the Minister of Finance explained that the fact that Andorra would become part of a constituency in the IMF would me-an that, in addition to being a mem-ber, the country would «have a grea-ter voice» in the international econo-mic body.

The first report on the Artist’s Statute prepared by the Go-vernment with the aim of re-gulating and standardizing

the profession is ready. The propo-sal is based, in part, on the legal fra-meworks of neighbouring countries that have already addressed the situ-ation previously and can serve An-dorra in addressing the situation, as explained by the Minister of Culture and Sports, Sílvia Riva .

The relevant ministry considered that «the report normalizes the ar-tist’s situation in a broad way and not just as a creator.» In this way, professionals linked to artistic cre-ation and the world of culture will be considered «artists» with the esta-blishment of a legal framework that ensures the necessary conditions for the development of their activity, although still they are not concre-te. However, Minister Riva made it clear during the Education, Rese-arch, Culture, Youth and Sports Le-gislative Commission regarding the report that «we are talking about amending labour laws, contributi-ons or the tax region.»
