Gn 27:1-5, 15-29 / Ps 135:1b-6 / Mt 9:14-17
.Saint Maria Goretti is an Italian virgin-martyr of the Catholic Church, and one of the youngest canonized saints. She was born to a farming family. Her father died when she was nine, and they had to share a house with another family, the Se-renellis. Maria took over household duties while her mother, brothers, and sister worked in the fields. One afternoon, Ales-sandro, the Serenellis' twenty-year-old son, made sexual ad-vances to her. When she refused to submit to him, he stabbed her fourteen times. Maria Goretti was beatified by Pope Pius XII in a ceremony at Saint Peter's Basilica on April 27, 1947. Three years later, on June 24, 1950, Maria was declared a saint and Alessandro was present in the St. Peter's crowd to celebrate her canonization.
Canonized: June 24, 1950, Rome by Pope Pius XII
Saint Junípero Serra y Ferrer, O.F.M., was a Roman Catholic Spanish priest and friar of the Franciscan Order who founded a mission in Baja California and the first nine of 21 Spanish missions in California from San Diego to San Francisco, in what was then Alta California in the Province of Las Cali-fornias, New Spain. Serra was beatified by Pope John Paul II on Septem-ber 25, 1988, in the Vatican City. Pope Francis canonised him on Septem-ber 23, 2015, at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Con-ception in Washington, D.C., during his first visit to the United States. His missionary efforts earned him the title of Apostle of California.

Jesus challenges us to feed the poor. His great love for the downtrodden, sick, and lonely people was ev-ident as he tirelessly ministered to all their needs while he was on Earth. Even now the Holy Spirit in-spires us to continue this work of Jesus as we share our bounty with those in need. No matter how small we might think our donations are, combined with others, we can do a lot to relieve the sufferings of those who struggle to provide for their family's basic necessities. We welcome and appreciate your on-going gifts of non-perishable food, bottled juices, toiletries, and cash. In Jesus name, we thank for these gifts so we can distribute them to those who come to us in need.
