• En el caso de los pacientesEEC probablemente elpequeño tamaño de lapoblación viral ha facilitadola pérdida de eficaciabiológica del virus (G7).

Resumen
• Los 3 pacientes muestras factores genéticos protectoresfrente a la infección.
• A pesar de los 30 años de infección los individuosmantienen una respuesta inmune potente y amplia.
• El reservorio viral es extremadamente pequeño y en sumayor parte defectivo.
• La variabilidad genética de las poblaciones virales esextremadamente baja.
• No se detecta evolución en los virus obtenidos de los 3individuos analizados.

Conclusiones del estudio
• Estos pacientes EEC deberían ser considerados casosde cura funcional espontanea del VIH-1.
• Los pacientes EEC se distinguen de otros EC por subaja diversidad genética y por la ausencia deevolución viral a lo largo de la infección.
• Los datos obtenidos indican que las estrategiasencaminadas a una cura funcional deben dirigirse nosolo a la reducción del reservorio viral sino tambiénhacia el mantenimiento de una diversidad genéticaviral extremadamente baja y una respuesta inmuneespecífica potente.
