Clonación y secuenciación de un cDNA codificante de 1062 pares de bases. Proteína de 41 Kd. (Yamamoto y colaboradores en 1990). Existen diferencias mínimas entre alelos A, B y O B difiere de A en 7 nucleótidos; en la enzima correspondiente, la diferencia se traduce a cambios en 4 aminoácidos. O es muy similar a A. Se ha encontrado una deleción de un nucleótido (Guanina 258). Ello supone un cambio en el marco de lectura, produciéndose una proteína (enzima - transferasa) completamente inactiva.
