El diámetro primitivo de la rueda (Dp) se obtienecon la formula:
Dp = psen 180° Z
si en esta formula se sustituye el valor sen con el valor se tiene180°Z

En el cuadro siguiente hemos recogidolos valores de "n" referidos a los número de los dientesmás usados, para calcular rápidamente el diámetro primitivo.
Ejemplo:
Encontrar el Dp de una rueda con 20 dientes por cadena p= 12.7, buscar en el cuadro elvalor "n" correspondiente a 20 dientes que es 6.392.Multiplicando 6.392 x 12.7 tendremos mm 81.18 que es el diámetro primitivo de la ruedaescogida.
