Desde que en 1987 esta compañía trans-

portase su primer yate mucho ha suce-

dido en el sector náutico; el número de

yates ha crecido a la par que la eslora de los mismos, con lo

que cada vez la demanda ha sido más grande. Tanto que

el año pasado Dockwise Yacht Transport (DYT) transportó

más de 1.300 embarcaciones a diferentes lugares de todo

el mundo. Esta firma, especializada en el transporte de yates

de hasta 146 metros de eslora, debe ofrecer un servicio que

sea a la vez fiable y seguro, algo que, aunque parezca obvio,

no lo es. Por ello, se sirve de unas embarcaciones especia-

les con una tecnología de vanguardia que facilita tanto la

carga y la descarga como el transporte.

rranean and taking a vacation onboard your own

yacht doesn’t necessarily mean having to spend a

month crossing the Atlantic with its associated anxie-

ties and loss of precious time. On the occasion of

this company’s thirtieth year in business, we now

take a look at how Dockwise Yacht Transport trans-

ports yachts and megayachts all over the world’s

most transited sea routes.

A great deal has happened on the yachting scene since

this company transported its very first yacht back in 1987,

including the fact that both the number and size of these

yachts has increased at virtually the same rate with the

resulting increasingly greater demand. So much so that

last year Dockwise Yacht Transport (DYT) transported

more than 1,300 yachts to different places around the

world. This company specialises in the transportation of

vessels up to 146 metres in length and therefore has to

en los últimos tiempos que servirán, según comentan

del buque de carga y, después, éste se sumerge parcialmen-

te, dejando dentro de sí una marina flotante con calado sufi-

ciente para que los nuevos “pasajeros” entren y amarren sin

problemas dentro del muelle artificial que se forma dentro.

Una vez están los yates dentro del buque, bien sujetos y ase-

gurados gracias a unos soportes que colocan unos buzos,

carriers have recently undergone certain modifica-

tions which, according to the company, will serve to

provide a more appropriate service for luxury yachts.

Aside from the semi-submersible feature for which

Dockwise are known, now the yacht carriers also

come with spray-covers to safely accommodate

yachts both large and small. The float on/float-off

loading and offloading system is fairly straightfor-

ward and brings peace of mind to yacht owners

when they see their megayachts being treated with

such due care and attention. The process first invol-

ves preparing the yacht carrier’s support elements,

after which the vessel is partially submerged into

what becomes a floating marina with sufficient

draught for the new “passengers” to enter and moor

up to the yacht carrier’s artificial dock. Once the

yachts are all aboard, well secured thanks to sup-

ports positioned by divers, the water is emptied,

transforming Dockwise once again into a dry dock

With the aim being to speed up the process, the

process, such as how to protect fragile elements,

stowing certain objects, removing furling gear for

Buques exclusivosEl “Explorer”, de 158 metros de eslora, acabó convirtién-

dose en un buque de transporte con modificaciones en las

pasarelas secundarias, instalación de defensas de caucho

y conexiones para electricidad y agua potable. Actualmente

está preparado para transportar yates a motor o a vela.

Los “Super Servant” 3 y 4 también han sido modificados para

un mejor transporte, introduciendo muelles laterales para

ofrecer seguridad a grandes y pequeños yates a vela y motor

durante el transporte. En 1994, el “Siervo Super 4” fue amplia-

do otros 30 metros, previendo el crecimiento de la industria

de la vela, con lo que alcanzó los 139 metros de eslora.

Está previsto que este mismo año empiece a funcionar el

“Yacht Express”, el que será el primer buque construido a

propósito para el transporte de yates. Seguramente por

eso, éste se convertirá en el servicio transatlántico de trans-

porte más rápido. Este nuevo buque cuenta con servicios

exclusivos para el transporte de yates, además de salas para

conferencias, sala de prensa, un atrio con piscina, gimna-

sio, cabinas completas para la tripulación y otras instalaciones

para que el viaje sea productivo y agradable. Con 209 metros

de eslora, este buque de transporte es el más grande de

carrier after having undergone modifications to its

secondary gangways, the installation of rubber fen-

ders as well as power and fresh water supply con-

nections. Currently set up to transport either motor

or sailing yachts. “Super Servant” 3 and 4 have also

been modified for improved transportation, with the

introduction of side quays to provide improved

safety for motor yachts and sailing yachts both big

and small. In anticipation of the growth in the yach-

ting industry, in 1994, The “Siervo Super 4” was

extended by a further 30 metres, giving this carries

a total length of 139 metres. It just so happened that

this year the “Yacht Express” also began to operate,

making this the very first specially constructed yacht

carrier. For certain this will become the most rapid

transatlantic yacht carrier service. This new ship fea-

tures exclusive yacht carrier services, as well as con-

ference suites, press room, an atrium with swimming

pool, gymnasium, full crew cabins and other facili-

ties to ensure the voyage is both pleasant and pro-
