Il celebre maestro orafo Gerardo Sacco lancia una nuova collezione unisex: “I pupi di Gerardo Sacco”. La linea, destinata a diventare un must nel settore degli accessori, si ispira alle caratteristiche marionette siciliane e a quel mondo dallo spirito eroico e dal cuore cavalleresco che sottointendono. Nonostante la perdita del contesto socio-culturale che l’ha vista nascere, la “Opera dei Pupi” è tra le più singolari espressioni della cultura popolare siciliana ed infatti è inserita, con le sue storie e le sue marionette ispirate ai temi e ai personaggi del ciclo della “Chanson de Geste”, tra i capolavori del patrimonio orale e immateriale dell’umanità protetti dall’Unesco. Oggi, a circa due secoli dalla loro prima apparizione, grazie alla tenacia di Gerardo Sacco fedele ai sentimenti più autentici della tradizione, i pupi vengono rievocati in questa nuova linea di gioielli.

The renowned master goldsmith Gerardo Sacco has launched a new unisex collection, “Gerardo Sacco’s Puppets”. The line, destined to become a must in the sector of accessories, was inspired by the characteristic Sicilian marionettes and the world of heroic spirit and chivalrous heart which came with it. Despite the loss of the social and cultural context which brought about “L’opra dei pupi” (the Opera of the Puppets) it was the most singular expression of Sicilian popular culture and in fact was inserted, with its history and its marionettes inspired by the themes and characters from the “Chansons de Geste” series, among the oral and immaterial heritage masterpieces of humanity, protected by UNESCO.Today, almost two hundred years after their first appearance, thanks to the tenacity of Gerardo Sacco’s faith in keeping to only the most authentic feelings of tradition, the puppets have been brought back to life in this new line of jewellery.

Gerardo Sacco ha reinterpretato con grazia, ironia e sensibilità contemporanea i personaggi della “Opera dei Pupi”, facendone i rappresentanti dei valori con cui affrontiamo la vita quotidiana. Ne sono nati quattordici personaggi epici, contraddistinti da altrettanti caratteri, nei quali ognuno di noi può riconoscersi.Gerardo Sacco abbraccia l’affermazione “siamo tutti pupi” di Luigi Pirandello e ci invita, non solo a scoprire il pupo che è in noi, ma anche a divertirci comunicando e scambiando emozioni e stati d’animo con le persone a cui vogliamo bene.

Gerardo Sacco has, with grace, irony and sensitivity, contemporarily re-interpreted the characters of the “Opera of the Puppets”, making them a representation of the values on which our daily lives are based. Fourteen epic characters have been created, distinguished by as many qualities, by which each one of us can identify with. Gerardo Sacco invites us , not only to discover the puppet inside of us, but also to enjoy communicating and exchanging emotions and feelings with our loved ones. “Gerardo Sacco’s Puppets”, which are completely flexible, are hand-made in gold 750/000, precious stones and are finely varnished. Figlio della maga Giuliana e fratellastro di Orlando, Agolaccio è nominato da Carlo Magno signore di Capua e governatore di Benevento, grazie agli alti meriti dimostrati in battaglia. Tra le tante imprese condotte Agolaccio, assieme ai compagni d’arme, libera dagli usurpatori pagani il regno di Sanseverino e, come nella tradizione cavalleresca, si innamora perdutamente della regina che ha salvato dalle mire degli infedeli e la sposa. Il matrimonio con Baldiana è prospero e felice e la vita del paladino di Francia lunga e pacifica.

Son of the sorceress Giuliana and half-brother of Orlando, Agolaccio was appointed Lord of Capua and Governor of Benevento by Carlo Magno thanks to the merits he demonstrated in battle. Among the many feats he accomplished, Agolaccio, together with his comrades-in-arms, freed the kingdom of Sanseverino from the pagan usurpers, and, as is the tradition for knights, fell blindly in love with the Queen who he saved from the threat of the infidels, and marries her. His marriage to Baldiana was prosperous and happy and the life of the French champion was long and peaceful.

King of Africa and descendent of Alexander the Great, Agramante was the supreme leader of the Moors who besieged Paris, the Commander of one of the most difficult feats of war in history and the direct adversary of Carlo Magno. His historic figure was wrapped in regal dignity and a spirit of justice which made him a great sovereign, always ready to intervene and bring peace to disputes which constantly, or for jealousy, or for pride, overwhelmed the Saracen warriors.

Re d’Africa e discendente di Alessandro Magno, Agramante è il capo supremo dei Mori che assediano Parigi, il comandante di una delle più difficili imprese belliche della storia e il diretto avversario di Carlo Magno. La sua figura è avvolta da una dignità regale e da uno spirito di giustizia che fanno di lui un grande sovrano, sempre pronto ad intervenire e a portare pace nelle dispute che costantemente, ora per gelosia, ora per orgoglio, travolgono i guerrieri saraceni.

AGOLACCIO“il fedele” - “the faithful”

Re di Mongolia e imperatore della Tartaria, Agricane è pazzamente innamorato di Angelica e la desidera con una perseveranza e una tenacia inenarrabili. Infatti quando lei lo rifiuta ingaggia un terribile duello contro Orlando che è giunto in soccorso della bella. Il combattimento è spietato e all’ultimo sangue. Agricane fa roteare con fierezza la sua spada, ma nulla può contro l’invulnerabile Orlando e perde la vita per amore di Angelica.

King of Mongolia and Emperor of Tartaria, Agricane was madly in love with Angelica and desired her with an indescribable perseverance and tenacity. In fact, when she refused him, he engaged in a terrible duel against Orlando who came to help the beautiful Angelica. The fight was ruthless and to the last ditch. Agricane twirled his sword with pride but nothing could be done against the invulnerable Orlando and he lose his life for the love of Angelica.

Princess of Catai and daughter of King Calafrone, Angelica was an enchanting creature, the quintessence of seduction. Arriving at the court in France having come from the Far East, she upset the hearts of the most stalwart of knights, both Christian and Saracen, who could not resist her beauty and prodigious charm. Even Orlando and Rinaldo fought over her but Angelica, thanks to a magic ring, disappeared from the sight of her admirers and wandering in a forest, she fell in love with a young blonde soldier called Medoro. The champions could not cope with their heartache. Orlando went mad while his cousin fled in despair.

Principessa del Catai e figlia di re Calafrone, Angelica è una creatura incantevole, la quintessenza della seduzione. Giunge alla corte di Francia dal lontano Oriente e sconvolge i cuori dei più prodi cavalieri, sia cristiani che saraceni, che non resistono alla sua bellezza e al suo fascino prodigioso. Anche Rinaldo e Orlando si battono per lei, ma Angelica grazie ad un anello magico sparisce dalla vista dei suoi corteggiatori e vagabondando in un bosco si innamora di un giovane soldato biondo di nome Medoro. I paladini non resistono al dolore: Orlando impazzisce mentre il cugino fugge disperato.

Figlio di Ottone re d’Inghilterra e cugino di Orlando e di Rinaldo, il paladino di Francia Astolfo è uno spirito libero attratto dalle armi e dalle belle donne. Perspicace e simpatico, va in giro per il mondo in cerca di avventure che affronta grazie al corno magico che mette in fuga qualsiasi avversario, alla lancia incantata e al libro per vanificare gli incantesimi. Instancabile viaggiatore, percorre tutto il mondo fino all’Inferno e al Paradiso, e sull’alato Ippogrifo si spinge sulla Luna dove l’attende l’avventura più mirabile: il recupero del senno di Orlando.

Sorella di Rinaldo, Bradamante è una valorosa paladina, una donna emancipata, indipendente e volitiva che racchiude in sé sia le virtù eroiche della cavalleria, sia la passione amorosa. Cavalca vestita della sua armatura e sconfigge cavalieri, giganti e maghi per unirsi in matrimonio con il suo Ruggiero che un incantesimo allontana ripetutamente da lei. Pazza di gelosia affronta in duello un’altra donna guerriera, la pagana Marfisia, che si rivela poi essere la sorella gemella del suo innamorato, rapita dagli Arabi alla nascita.

ASTOLFO“l’avventuriero” - “the adventurer”

BRADAMANTE“l’indipendente” - “the independent“

Son of Ottone, King of England, and cousin of Orlando and Rinaldo, the French champion Astolfo was a free spirit attracted to weapons and beautiful women. Perceptive and charming, he travelled around the world in search of adventure which he faced thanks to a magic horn that made any adversary flee, an enchanted lance and a book to neutralise spells. An indefatigable traveller, he covered the entire world from Heaven to Hell and on his winged Hippogriff reached the Moon where awaited his most admirable adventure: the recovery of Orlando’s wits.

Sister of Rinaldo, Bradamente was a courageous championess, a liberated, independent and volatile woman who held in her both the heroic virtues of knighthood and the passion for love. She rode dressed in her armour and defeated knights, giants and sorcerers so as to be united in marriage with her Ruggiero, who through a curse, was repeatedly kept away from her. Madly jealous, she confronted in duel another female warrior, the pagan Marfisia, who turned out to be the twin sister of her true love, kidnapped by the Arabs at birth.

Re di Francia e primo imperatore del Sacro Romano Impero, Carlo Magno è anche detto “il grande” per i suoi meriti di generale, legislatore e uomo politico, oltre che per la sua forza fisica. Alto come un gigante e con gli occhi scintillanti, Carlo Magno solleva da terra con una mano un cavaliere armato, mentre con la sua spada – Gioiosa – taglia di netto un uomo a cavallo. A capo del suo valoroso esercito, praticamente imbattibile grazie ai paladini di Francia, intraprende oltre sessanta campagne militari e accumula vittorie su vittorie, che lo portano a regnare sull’intera Europa.

Il paladino Cladinoro, che aveva già mostrato il suo valore uccidendo il mostro che terrorizzava la città di Soldanella, partecipa al torneo per conquistare il cuore della bella Rosetta, figlia di Barbassore di Russia. Il favorito della giostra è il terribile, grosso e deforme gigante Scapigliato, ma il giovane Cladinoro, con la sua bellezza e la sua gentilezza, cattura subito l’attenzione di Rosetta che sviene per l’emozione. Il paladino, forte della sua avvenenza e della sua prestanza, atterra il temibile avversario e vince l’amore della principessa russa.

CARLO MAGNO“l’invincibile” - “the invincible”

CLADINORO“il bello” - “the fair”

King of France and the first Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire, Carlo Magna was also called “the Great” for his merits as a General, Legislator and Politician other than just for his physical strength. As tall as a giant and with glittering eyes, Carlo Magno could lift an armoured knight from the ground with one hand, while with his sword – Gioiosa – at the same time cut down a man on horseback. Leader of his courageous army, practically unbeatable thanks to the champions of France, he undertook over sixty military campaigns, accumulating victory after victory which brought him to reign the whole of Europe.

The champion Cladinoro, who had already shown his bravery by killing the monster that terrorised the city of Soldanella, participated in a tournament to win the heart of the beautiful Rosetta, daughter of Barbassore of Russia. The favourite for the tournament was the terrible, fat and deformed giant Scapigliato but the young Cladinoro, with his handsome looks and his kindness, immediately captured the attention of Rosetta who fainted from the emotion. The champion, strong for his charm and good looks, downed the terrible adversary and won the love of the Russian Princess.

Nipote di re Marsilio di Spagna, Ferraù è un gigante saraceno tutto fuoco, dalla forza più che umana e dall’aspetto straordinariamente terribile, invulnerabile per arte magica tranne che in un punto. Difende il regno dello zio e la propria fede contro i cristiani e si batte in furiose sfide con i più valorosi paladini abbattendoli tutti. Innamorato pazzamente di Angelica viene sconfitto da Orlando dopo un duello, intervallato da discussioni teologiche, durato ben tre giorni.

Marito in seconde nozze della bella Berta, madre di Orlando e sorella di Carlo Magno, Gano di Magonza oltre ad essere un paladino di Francia è anche un astutissimo consigliere dell’imperatore. Il suo ascendente sul re e la sua capacità di persuasione sono talmente forti che riesce a convincerlo a fare qualunque cosa: anche ad abbandonare l’assedio della città di Saragozza dove i Saraceni resistevano ai Francesi da sette lunghi anni.

FERRAU“il forte” - “the strong”

GANO di Magonza“l’astuto” - “the astute”

Nephew of the King Marsilio of Spain, Ferraù was a fiery Saracen giant of super human strength with an extraordinarily terrible appearance who was invulnerable, apart from one spot, due to the magical arts. He defended his uncle’s kingdom and his own faith against the Christians and fought in furious challenges against the most courageous of champions, beating all of them. Madly in love with Angelica, he was defeated by Orlando in a three-day duel, which included intervals of theological discussion.

Husband in his second marriage to the beautiful Berta, mother of Orlando and sister of Carlo Magno, Gano Di Magonza other than being a champion of France was also an astute advisor to the Emperor. His control over the King and his capacity to persuade were so strong that he was able to convince the King to do almost anything: even to abandon the siege of the city of Saragozza where the Saracens had resisted the French for seven long years.

Nipote di Carlo Magno, Orlando è il primo paladino di Francia: suddito fedele, amico leale, protettore dei deboli. Fin da ragazzo mostra segni di grande coraggio e nobiltà d’animo che lo portano a compiere imprese leggendarie, audaci e valorose insieme all’inseparabile spada Durlindana, appartenuta a Ettore di Troia e alla regina delle Amazzoni. Il suo gesto eroico più celebre è legato all’agguato di Roncisvalle sui Pirenei nel 778, quando l’esercito saraceno attacca in un’imboscata i dodici paladini. Orlando, che non vuole mettere a repentaglio la vita di Carlo Magno, resiste con i compagni e solo alla fine del massacro, già in punto di morte, avvisa il re suonando il corno d’avorio Olifante, fino a farsi scoppiare le tempie.

Rinaldo di Montalbano è il secondo paladino di Francia. Cugino di Orlando è il suo antagonista tanto nelle questioni d’arme quanto in quelle di cuore, infatti anche Rinaldo viene sopraffatto dall’amore per la bella Angelica. Fedele cavaliere di Carlo Magno, quando Parigi è assediata dai Saraceni non esita, con coraggio ed arditezza, ad attraversare il mare avverso per cercare aiuto nella sconosciuta Inghilterra. Rinaldo ritorna in patria a capo di un intero esercito scozzese: fa gettare dei ponti sulla Senna e salva la città.

ORLANDO“il valoroso” - the brave”

RINALDO“il coraggioso” - the Courageous”

Nephew of Carlo Magno, Orlando was the first champion of France: faithful subject, loyal friend, protector of the weak. From boyhood he had shown signs of great courage and noble spirit which brought him to achieve legendary, audacious and courageous feats together with his inseparable sword, Durlindana, which had previously belonged to Hector of Troy and the Queen of the Amazionians. His most celebrated heroic deed was linked to the Roncisvalle ambush in the Pyrenees in a.d.778, when the Saracen army ambushed and attacked the twelve champions. Orlando, who did not want to put the life of Carlo Magno at risk, resisted with his companions and it was at the very end of the massacre, when he was at the point of death, that he warned the King by sounding the Olifante Ivory Horn, to the point of his temples exploding.

Rinaldo of Montalbano was the second champion of France. Cousin of Orlando and his antagonist for both questions of arms to those of matters of the heart, Rinaldo was in fact, head over heels in love with the beautiful Angelica. A faithful knight to Carlo Magno, when Paris was besieged by the Saracens he did not hesitate, with courage and boldness, to cross the adverse sea in search for help in the land of unknown England. Rinaldo returned to his homeland leading an entire army of Scots: He made them build bridges over the Seine and saved the city.

Il fato ha destinato Ruggiero a diventare, con l’adorata Bradamante, il capostipite della gloriosa dinastia degli Estensi. Ma, rimasto orfano, Ruggiero viene allevato dal mago Atlante che con il potere degli incantesimi lo sottrae alla sua sorte e ne fa un valoroso guerriero saraceno. Il giovane, dotato di ogni qualità cavalleresca, si innamora però di Bradamante e decide per lei di farsi cristiano. Le prove che deve affrontare per compiere il suo destino felice sono infinite, ma riesce ugualmente a superarle tutte, a sposare la sua amata, e a diventare a sua volta paladino di Francia.

Il personaggio di Uzeda il Catanese si ispira alla figura del vicerè don Giovanni Francesco Paceco duca di Uzeda. Dopo il terribile terremoto del 1693 che rade completamente al suolo Catania, il duca assume il complesso compito di ricostruire la città. Da uomo di cultura e grande amante dell’arte qual è, dà vita ad un mirabile esempio di architettura dal forte impatto scenografico e lascia una testimonianza fondamentale del meraviglioso barocco catanese.

RUGGIERO“l’innamorato” - “The Enamoured”

UZEDA il Catanese“l’artista” - “the artist”

Fate destined Ruggiero to become, with the beloved Bradamante, the progenitor of the glorious Estensi dynasty. But, on becoming an orphan, Ruggiero was brought up by the sorcerer Atlante who with the power of enchantment, took him away from this fate and made him a courageous Saracen warrior. The young man, doted with all the qualities of a knight, fell in love with Bradamante however, and decided to become a Christian for her. The trials he had to face to accomplish his happy destiny were infinite, but he nevertheless managed to overcome them all, married his true love, and became in turn, the champion of France.

The character of Uzeda il Catanese was inspired by the historical figure of the Viceroy don Giovanni Francesco Paceco, Duke of Uzeda. After the terrible earthquake of 1693 which completely razed Catania to the ground, the Duke assumed the complex task of rebuilding the city. Being a man of culture and a great art lover, he gave life to an admirable example of architecture with a spectacular impact, leaving a fundamental testimony of the marvellous Baroque Catanese.
