Dear Ramsey Memorial UMC Saints,
What an exciting time of year at Ramsey Memorial; that time of year when we
prepare our hearts “to make Him room”. We may be wondering how can we possibly
find the time, much less the room, for the Savior amidst our holiday parties, events and
gatherings, not to mention our preparations for the New Year?
The simple answer is that we all have 24 hours each day and 168 hours each
week to fill however we decide to prioritize our time and fill it. The truthful answer is
that every one of us sets our priorities and then fills our calendar with the items most
important to us.
These reminders are not meant as a guilt trip but rather as an invitation to choose
well. Each of us can benefit from taking a short time to re-group and take a deep breath,
re-evaluate our schedules and re-new our commitment to love God first, serve God first
and put God first in our lives and in our daily calendars. What a wonderful time of year
we are entering and those of us who are madly in love with Jesus Christ have much to
celebrate. Yes, we have gifts to wrap, family gatherings to attend (or host), a Living
Nativity and Bethlehem to participate in or to experience with our loved ones, and the
list goes on and on. But we also know that in the midst of all these “functions” we will
function best when we’ve connected to that Baby of Bethlehem and made Him our #1
priority.
So grab a cup of coffee, tea or hot cocoa and curl up with your calendar and with
the Lord. Then place some time in each 24-hour day in December and in January for
time with the One whom we are celebrating. All the rest of the events on our calendar
will have far more meaning when they are shared with our First Love, our Lord, our
Savior, our God-With-Us Emmanuel. It is the surest way I know to have a Merry
CHRISTmas and a Happy New Year!
With transforming Christmas hope,
Claudia

día a día. He aquí
Pastora, Norma Aguilar

NEW FURNACE
We recently replaced our 50 year old oil furnace with a
brand new gas furnace. It costs $25,000 plus another
$8000 to remove the asbestos insulation on the old
furnace. If you would like to make a donation to help
cover this expense, just write “new furnace” on your
check. Thank you for your generosity.

We use a lot of paper products (plates, cups, napkins) and plastic utensils. Once those
products are set out for use, they are trash. Even if they are not used, they cannot be
returned to our supply for future use. They are considered contaminated unless they have
been wrapped or covered. That’s why some groups wrap the utensils in a napkin and
secure it. So only put out what you think will be used. You can always get more if you
need it. And don’t leave unused paper products on the kitchen counters. You would be
surprised how often I find paper products just sitting out unprotected…which means I have
to throw them away. What a waste! If you have any questions, just ask. Jane
KITCHEN DUES
January is the month to pay kitchen dues. We ask each group that uses the kitchen to con-
tribute $75 to help cover the cost of paper plates, cups, coffee, lemonade, etc. for the year.
Just make your check to Ramsey Church and mark it “kitchen dues”. Thank you for your
help.

Fall in love with the book that changed everything
As we explore the lives of Israel’s wisest kings, God’s powerful prophets,
and your amazing savior, you’ll see how every subject and story in Scrip-
ture paints a picture of God’s plan for humanity, including the story God
wants to write with you.
Have you noticed that Fall is here? Some days I think Winter has arrived and then other days it's
like an early Spring day. One thing I know, whether it is Spring, Fall or Winter, Ramsey's UMW is
getting very busy. "I understand that all the money collected at the Bake Sale will stay at Ramsey
to be used by the Unit for such things as scholarships, donations to charitable programs, speakers for
meetings, local mission work or what ever worthy item the Unit decides."
I want to be sure to thank those ladies who did all the baking and also to those Ramsey members
who purchased items. Thank you very much, we appreciate all of your support.
Once again Ramsey's UMW received a certificate for participation in the Six Channels of Mis-
sion Giving. The UMW Purpose that we recite at every meeting is focused on mission work for
Women, Children and Youth. Our Mission Initiatives include : Providing opportunities to
grow spiritually, Equipping women and girls to be leaders, Providing transformative educational
experiences, Organizing for growth and flexibility and Working for justice through service and ad-
vocacy. Ramsey's UMW also received recognition by contributing to the Six Channels of Mis-
sion Giving: A Pledge to Mission, A Gift to Missions in memory of someone, A donation in Spe-
cial Mission Recognition of someone, Giving to the World Thank Offering, A donation to burn a
candle for a number of minutes in honor or memory of someone, and Selling of the Mission Giving
Cards.
Congratulation to all the UMW members!
There is one more UMW meeting in 2019: December 7th is the Richmond District Advent Service
at Forest Grove UMC in Ashland, Va. The Rev. Peter Moon will be our speaker.
On January 25, 2020, The Richmond District UMW will provide The Day Apart at Richmond
Hill,9:00 am to 4:00 pm.
January 30 2020 is the United Methodist Day at the General Assembly, meeting at the Pace Stu-
dent Center at VCU. Contact a UMW member for further information.
MY WISH TO YOU....
You're in my thoughts at Christmas, so I say this little prayer..
"May angels always bless you, and keep you in their care,
And may the heaven's angels light a Christmas star.
To shine on you all through the year, no matter where you are."

ADVENT STUDY: Each Sunday, December 1st through
December 22nd we will gather in the
Church Sanctuary from 9:45-10:30am
for our annual Advent Study. This year
we are experiencing “The Lion and the
Lamb”, a study of the Old Testament
prophecies that were fulfilled with the
coming of Jesus Christ as our Savior.
Each week will provide a different
speaker to share with us about Jesus as
Lion, as Lamb, as The Word and as Son
of God. No books or homework is required.
Come one, come all!
Thank You just doesn't seem to be enough.
Russ and I are so very
blessed to have such an
awesome church family.
We are so very grateful for
all the help we received during our move as
well as all the calls, cards, meals and visits
we received during his recovery from sur-
gery. Our lives have been truly touched with
God's Love and Ramsey's Love.
In Christian Love,
Donna and Russ Cottrell
Christian
Symbol
Holly was first used by pagans to decorate for the
festival of Saturnalia. When Christians began cele-
brating Christmas in honor of Christ, they adapted
that decorating practice to reflect Jesus’ life and
death. Holly’s pointed leaves symbolize the crown
of thorns and its red berries symbolize Christ’s
blood shed on the cross. Because holly thrives and
its berries retain their brilliance even in harsh win-
ter conditions, non-Christians saw it as a symbol
of eternity — which is fitting for Christians as
well.
