Como saben estamos estudiando cada reino. Hoy vamos a empezar con el reino Hongos.

La mayoría de los hongos son muy útiles para el ser humano, los utilizamos para

elaboración de comidas, antibióticos, reciclaje, etc.

Los hongos pueden ser unicelulares: las levaduras, o pluricelulares: los mohos y setas.

Para este tema lean la introducción donde he puesto fotos, luego vamos a ver un video,

leer el libro y hacer preguntas en el cuaderno.

Recordatorio: Voy a corregir cuadernos el lunes 30 y tiene que estar todo lo que hemos

hecho. Vayan organizándolo J.

INTRODUCTION:

Hi J I hope you are all doing great,

Let’s remember what we are studying:

On earth we can find a lot of living things, they interact with each other and with the

environment. We learnt that we classify living things into 5 kingdoms or groups with similar

characteristics. The kingdoms are: moneran, protists, fungus, plant and animal.

• We studied in the previous classes: moneran and protist. Today we are going to start

with FUNGUS.

• There are around 70.000 known species that belong to the Fungus Kingdom.

They include yeasts, which are unicellular and moulds and mushrooms that are

multicellular.

YEASTS MOULDS AND MUSHROOMS

• They are all Eukaryotic.

• They have a cell wall formed by a substance named CHITIN.

• Fungi are all heterotrophic.

And depending on what they eat they can be considered: Saprophytes, parasites or

Symbiotic (Lichen is an example of symbiosis)

• Reproduction:

o Unicellular: Yeasts ( levaduras in Spanish): reproduce by a process called

budding – look at the picture in your book page 38. There you can see the

parent cell and the daughter cell

o Multicellular : they use spores to reproduce. Mushroom is a reproductive

structure that release the spores to reproduce.

• Some fungi are pathogens and can cause diseases, but a lot of them can be very

beneficial or useful to us.
