posee un lugar privilegiado: los Pirineos. Her-mosa frontera natural que divide tres países

–España, Francia y Andorra– y dos comunidades autóno-mas, una descubierta ya, Cataluña, y otra desconocida perode igual magnitud paisajística: Aragón. El Pirineo leridanotiene tanto legado histórico que abruma. Es, sin duda, unade las cunas del Románico español. Como muestra de eseposo que ha dejado la historia a lo largo de los siglos, tresParadores de Turismo lo contemplan y custodian. El últimoque se ha reabierto es el de La Seu d’Urgell, una localidadsituada entre la sierra de Cadí y la frontera de Andorra.

A natural frontier of great beauty dividing threecountries (Spain, France and Andorra) and two regionalcommunities, one already well-known: Catalonia, and theother as yet unknown but just as full of magnificent landscapes:Aragon. The Pyrenees of Lleida have an overwhelming histor-ical legacy. Without doubt, it is one of the birthplaces ofarchitectural Romanesque style in Spain. As witness to thisaccumulation of history over the centuries, no less than threeParadores stand guard over the region.

remodelación realizada, se ha convertido en un salón donde poder descansar y relajarse,

gracias a una cuidada iluminación y unos coloresadecuados al lugar en el que se encuentra.

The Parador’s Cloister, the focal point for therefurbishment just completed, has been turned

into a lounge where guests can sit and relaxthanks to carefully chosen lighting and colours

that blend in with the setting.

The latest to be re-opened is that of La Seu d’Urgell, atown located between the Cadí mountains and the borderwith Andorra. The Parador was built in 1979 on the siteof a former Dominican Monastery. All that remained ofthe original building was the cloister, once part of a churchlong since destroyed. Its location in the heart of the olddistrict surrounding the twelfth-century cathedral, nextto the Town Hall and the Seminary, has made it a reallyideal setting in which to bathe in the history springingup from each and every corner of the town.

The new re-organization following the refurbishmentworks which have taken place in the Parador’s insta-llations revolve around this cloister, which recovers inthis new century the significance of yesteryear reflectedin its historical importance. As a result, attempts havebeen made to enhance the different footfall areas andthe services available in this building. One of the basesfor this is the studied improvement in the lighting, sothat every nook and cranny of this former monastery isimbued with the beauty incrusted on its walls.

A different image can be enjoyed when contemplatingthe dark-coloured walls, in the use of neutral tones ofthe fabrics draping the main hall, located in the cloisteritself, or the pale colours in the bedrooms and the moreserious tones in the public areas, in the Indian-maderugs with their joyful, brightly-coloured squares, and in

El Parador de Turismo se construyó en 1979 sobre elsolar del antiguo Convento de los Dominicos. De élsolamente quedaba el claustro, que pertenecía a unaiglesia desaparecida. Su situación en el casco antiguode la localidad que rodea la catedral, del siglo XII, juntoal Ayuntamiento y el Seminario, lo convierten en unenclave ideal para sumergirse en la historia que manade cada rincón de la localidad leridana.

La nueva reestructuración y obras de remodelación delas instalaciones del Parador giran en torno a esteclaustro, que debido a su importancia histórica cobraen este nuevo siglo la relevancia de épocas pasadas.Con ello, se han intentado potenciar las distintas zonasde paso de los clientes y servicios de los que constaeste edificio. Y una de las bases es la mejora y estu-dio de la iluminación, para que cada rincón de esteantiguo convento se nutra de la belleza que el paso deltiempo ha dejado incrustada en las paredes y muros.

Una imagen diferente que se aprecia en las paredes decolores oscuros, en el uso de tonos neutros en telasque cubren el salón principal, ubicado en el propioclaustro, en los colores claros de las habitaciones ymás serios en las zonas comunes, sobre alfombras defactura india con tonos alegres y cuadros de coloresvivos, y en un restaurante forrado con tela en franjasde color marrón y beige. a restaurant lined in stripes of brown and beige. All usingthe innovative system of regulated lighting that tingesdifferent spaces and fills many other corners with life tocontribute to the warmth and comfort of the Parador.

The installations of this Parador are completed by 79bedrooms, 8 of them equipped with ensuite lounges, plusthree meeting rooms for celebrations or conventions,named Serra Cadí, Alt Urgell and the cloister itself. Thelast is the most spectacular as it creates an atmosphereof peace and relaxation thanks to the colours of its decora-tion and natural lighting that enraptures the senses byday, and the playfulness of lights in blue, green and redthat transport us to idyllic landscapes at night. All accom-panied by a swimming pool, a sauna, solarium, cafeteriaand a restaurant in which to enjoy the region’s deliciousproduce. Gastronomy is so important that December willsee the Gastronomic Festival of Maritime Cooking at whichto enjoy a great variety of fish and shellfish.

Las instalaciones del Parador de Turismo se completancon 79 habitaciones, 8 de ellas dotadas con salón, y 3salones para celebraciones o convenciones denomina-dos Serra Cadí, Alt Urgell y el del propio claustro. Éstees el más espectacular porque crea un ambiente de pazy sosiego debido al colorido de su decoración y a la luznatural que embriaga los sentidos por el día, y a un juego de luces de color azul, verde y rojo quetransporta a paisajes idílicos por la noche.

Todo acompañado de piscina, sauna, solarium, cafe-tería y un restaurante donde se pueden degustar losricos productos de la región. La gastronomía es tanimportante que en diciembre se celebran unas Jorna-das Gastronómicas de Cocina Marinera donde sabo-rear gran variedad de pescados y mariscos.

En un edificio donde los años de historia se cuentanen los círculos interiores de los muros, la tecnologíaestá presente en unas instalaciones equipadas con un

Y si el propio Parador ya es un lugar para disfrutar conlos cinco sentidos, también supone el punto de partidade numerosas visitas que se degustan a fuego lentomientras los Pirineos nos acogen con su verde mantode naturaleza. Desde allí, se pueden admirar el ParqueNacional de Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici, elParc del Cadí-Moixero, Andorra o la estación de esquíde Sant Joan de l’Erm. Todo ello tras haber paseadopor las calles de la localidad de La Seu d’Urgell, y con-templar la Iglesia de Sant Miquel y la Pietat, el Palaudel Bisbe, los Pórticos de las calles Mayor y Canongeso el Claustro del Parc de la Valira. Una historia depasado, presente y con mucho futuro por delante.

While the Parador itself is somewhere to enjoy with allfive senses, it is also a starting point for numerous hikesthat can be enjoyed at a slow pace while the Pyreneesgreet us with their luscious green mantle. From here, youcan explore the nature reserves of the Aigüestortes i Estanyde Sant Maurici National Park, the Cadi-Moixero Park,Andorra or the skiing resort of Sant Joan de L’Erm.

Not forgetting a stroll through the streets of La Seu d’Ur-gell, and a visit to the church of Saint Michael and thePietà, the Bishop’s Palace, the Porches along the CalleMayor and the Calle Canonges or the Cloister in the ValiraPark. A history that bridges the past with the present andhas a long bright future ahead of it.
