Sistemas de Clasificacin Climtica A principios del siglo XX el botnico climatlogo alemn desarrollo una clasificacin climtica del mundo basando en los diferentes tipos de vegetacin Wldimir Koopen .
Es considerada como una clasificacin emprica que con el transcurrir del tiempo fue mejorada.
Koopen considero a la vegetacin como un sistema integrador del clima en una determinada regin.
Su clasificacin se basa en cinco grandes grupos , los cuales estn representados por las letras A, B , C , D , E y H cada uno de ellos representa criterios de temperatura excepto B.

El tipo A corresponde a las zonas mas calidas del planeta y dentro de ellos se puede distinguir aquellos climas dotados de una estacin secas en invierno (AW) , estaciones secas cortas (Am) y climas sin estacin seca (Af).
Los climas tipo E corresponden a los lugares mas fros de la tierra , dividindose en climas de tundra (ET) y climas de nieve /hielo (EF).
Los climas tipo B estn basados en la precipitacin y designa al clima considerando la aridez . Se dividen en climas ridos (BW) y secos (BS) , a su vez pueden ser fros (k) o calidos (h).

El clima de latitudes media (C y D) , el cual van acompaadas de una segunda letra (s) si tiene una estacin seca en verano y si es en invierno se utiliza (w).
El clima de montaa se simboliza por H.

Clasificacin de KppenA : Clima tropical lluvioso. Todos los meses la temperatura media es superior a 18 C. No existe estacin invernal y las lluvias son abundantes.B : Climas secos. La evaporacin es superior a la precipitacin y no hay excedente hdrico.C : Climas templados y hmedos. El mes ms fro tiene una temperatura media comprendida entre 18 y -3 C, y la media del mes ms clido supera los 10 C.D : Climas templados de invierno fro. la temperatura media del mes ms fro es inferior a -3 C y la del mes ms clido est por encima de 10 C.E : Climas polares. No tienen estacin clida y el promedio mensual de las temperaturas es siempre inferior a 10 C. Cuando el mes ms clido oscila entre 0 y 10 C de temperatura media, ET (clima de tundra) y en el caso de que ningn mes supere los 0 C de media el grupoEF (clima de hielo permanente).

Sistema de Thornthwaite
Se basa en el concepto de Evapotranspiracin potencial y el balance hdrico.
Se basa en cuatro criterios bsicos:
ndice global de humedad,variacin estacional de la humedad efectiva, ndice de eficiencia trmica y concentracin de la eficacia trmica en verano .
