Dan Grifn, director of Admissions and Student Financial Services and his team will
work like crazy to nd you money! But whats more important is the power of God
working through them. Heres a story Dan loves to tell:
One afternoon I was sitting in my ofce with ayoung lady who was having difculty makingher payment for the upcoming semester. Shehad a signicant amount of student loans andcould not borrow additional funds. Meanwhile, her parents were unwilling to assist hernancially. She supplemented her income byworking at a local restaurant, but additionalfunding options for the upcoming semesterwere looking bleak.
She decided to register for courses and praythat God would provide the funds she neededto continue studying at CIU. On the morning ofthe payment deadline she returned to my of-ce with a glow on her face. A customer at thelocal restaurant asked her the evening beforeabout her college plans. When she told him she
was attending CIU, this man she had never met, expressed an interest in assisting her nancially. The man would be bringing a check to CIU thatafternoon to cover the balance of her account.Additionally, as he continued to help her payfor educational expenses, he also assisted her inpaying back her student loans.
While this story may seem unique, I have manymore just like it I could share with you! In myyears of service at CIU I havebeen amazed at how Godcontinues to providenances for ourstudents.

Q. How do I apply for nancial aid?A. The general application for nancialaid is the Free Application for FederalStudent Aid (FAFSA). This is a freeapplication that is supplied by the U.S.Department of Education. It can becompleted on paper or on the web atwww.fafsa.ed.gov. CIU also requires
the completion of an additional applica-tion. (Please see http://www.ciu.edu/nancialaid/forms)
Q. Why do I need a PIN and where do Iget it?A. You can apply for a PIN at pin.ed.gov.A PIN will be mailed to you or if youput in an e-mail address, it will be sentto your e-mail address. This numberconrms your identity with the U.S.Department of Education and allowsyou to electronically sign your FAFSAapplication. It also allows you to go in
and make changes, request a StudentAid Report (SAR) or ll out a renewalapplication in subsequent years. Thisnumber has replaced a physical sig-nature and makes processing muchquicker.
Q. What is the deadline to apply fornancial aid?A. The priority deadline for completingthe FAFSA and CIU scholarship appli-cation is Jan. 31 of each year. A prioritydeadline implies that any student whocompletes the FAFSA after this datemay be subject to a reduction in fund-ing. Furthermore, the state of SouthCarolina requires that the FAFSA besubmitted no later than June 30.The FAFSA must be completed everyyear in which a student wishes to applyfor nancial aid.
Q. What is verication?A. The U.S. Department of Educationrandomly selects 30 percent of the
students who submit a FAFSA for a pro-cess called verication. Colleges anduniversities are required to collect atax return and a verication worksheetfrom individuals who were selected.
Q. Will my nancial aid change fromyear to year?
A. There are many variables in deter-mining whether a students nancialaid will change. Most of our scholar-ships and grants have minimum GPArequirements. In addition to GPA, othervariables which affect a students nan-cial aid are EFC (determined by theFAFSA), completion date of the FAFSA,residency status, etc.
Q. What types of aid are available?A. There are many sources to assistyou in paying for college. The four maintypes of aid are Federal, State, Institu-
tional, and Outside resources. It is bestto work with our ofce or a high schoolguidance counselor to secure the bestpossible aid package.
Q. When will I receive an awardnotication?A. CIU will begin processing awardletters after Feb. 1. Once your le iscompleted (all required documents arereceived by CIU) you will receive anotication within two weeks.
Q. Can I get a job on campus?A. All student worker job vacancies areposted at www.ciuonline.com and onbulletin boards located in the StudentCenter and near the Career Servicesofces in the Administration building.Student worker jobs are open to ALLregistered students, whether you areFederal Work Study approved or not.
Q. When is the application deadline?A. Aug. 1 for fall semester and Jan.1 for
spring. Application deadline for inter-national students is July 1 for fall andDec. 1 for spring.
Q. What are your top majors?A. Intercultural Studies, Youth Minis-try, Communication, Psychology andEducation.
Q. What is the male/female ratio?A. 47/53
Q. What are the SAT or ACTrequirements?A. SAT = 1290 out of 2400
860 out of 1600ACT = 18 out of 36
Q. Can I e-mail my essay to you?A. Yes. E-mail it to [email protected].
Q. Do you accept transfer credit?

Q. How much is the application fee?A. $45
Q. Do you accept AP credit?A. Yes, we accept scores of 3 and abov

ampusphotoSome Places Around Campus You Need to Know AboutThere are some pretty important people that hang out in the c uil i d i istr ion Buildinc uilkin d s ra on B di (1)Not only will you nd the president and vice presidents there, the registrar who keeps tabs on your class credits
has an ofce there. Be nice to everyone in the Registrars Ofce.
Youll spend a lot of time in the Fi r Buil iFi uil i g (2) because thats where most of the classrooms are located. There are benches conveniently located outside where you can collapse after exams.
Theres no avoiding the . Allen Fl ec Li rar. lle e ce Lib ar (3) Even though there is Internet access all over campus, aprofessor will eventually send you to the library for a hard cover book, or youll want to go there to seek refugefrom your roommate.
Stay in shape at Th oore Fi ess terhe oore F t e Ce er (4) The Moore Fitness Center features basketball and volleyballcourts, a weight room, aerobics equipment, locker rooms (and some unusual dodge ball tournaments). Also inthe tness center is a lounge area with a replace, furniture and snack bar.
The or ra er o ersVic or r er To ers (5) are a great place for meditation on The Word and communication with theLord. Occasionally corporate prayer takes place at the prayer towers, such as a candlelight vigil.
The ormorms (6) are located on the east and west sides of the campus, but please, we prefer to call themresidence halls.
rt a ehor ss a el (7) is where we meet for chapel services and other important events such as commencement.
The R si tu ent Cen rRoss en e te (8) houses the bookstore, the post ofce and the dining room where friends meet toeat and chat with the CIU president.
te o te (9) is a ridge over the Broad River with the skyline of downtown Columbia in the distance. The Statenewspaper of Columbia calls it one of the best places to watch a sunset.
The Secret Passageway (10) is exactly that. A Secret. We cannot tell you where it is located or where itgoes. But some of the older alumni claim it used to connect the mens and womens dorms.
