La exhibicin Paisajes Hdricos: formas, significados ytransformaciones explora la fluidez del agua, fuente de lavida. Ella no fluye en direccin a los seres que la necesitansino que fluye en direccin al poder. En las sociedadescontemporneas el control sobre el agua se ha convertidoen un asunto tico altamente controversial, pues este biencomn est siendo despojado a muchas comunidades ya la ciudadana empobrecida para servir a los interesesdel capital, creando paisajes hdricos desiguales. Estaexhibicin invita a preguntarnos Cmo se gestiona el

agua? Quin y cmo se decide? Quin gana? Quinpierde?

Preguntas para las que se insinan respuestas centradasen la naturaleza hbrida del agua; no slo miramos suspropiedades biofsicas y espaciales sino tambin sucarcter social y cultural. Esta exhibicin invita a seguirlos flujos de agua a travs de tres paisajes hdricos: (1)desconexin, (2) megaproyectos hidroenergticos y (3)territorios campesinos amenazados por una urbanizacinsin lmite ni precaucin y el control de las montaas en tantomanantiales de agua para ser capturada y comercializada.En cada paisaje hdrico se puede observar cmo diferentesactores, discursos, normas y leyes se entrelazan paraconstituir formas, significados y transformacionesque generan condiciones de desigualdad, inequidad yresistencia.

En el marco del Foro Urbano Mundial de ONU-Hbitat,proponemos esta exhibicin como una invitacin a cuestionarcmo los paisajes hdricos contemporneos se producen yse transforman, y cmo se pueden crear alternativas parapensar en ciudades equitativas y sustentables, y en ellas,

el agua refrescando la manera de construir una democraciabasada en el bien comn. Colombia tiene que vivir enequilibrio su vnculo con el agua.

The exhibit Waterscapes: forms, meanings andtransformationsexplores the fluidness of water, fountainof life. Water flows not in the direction of beings that needit; no, it flows in the direction of power. In present-daysocieties water has become a highly controversial ethicalissue, due to the fact that it is being taken from impoverishedcommunities to serve the interests of capital, creatingunequal waterscapes. This exhibit exhorts us to ask: Howare water resources managed? Who makes decisions, whatis decided? Who wins? Who loses?

These questions elicit answers focused on the hybridnature of water; for we are not just looking at its spatialand biophysical properties but also at its cultural andsocial character. The exhibit lures us into following theflow of water through three waterscapes: (1) disconnection,(2) hydroelectric megaprojects, and (3) rural territoriesthreatened not only by careless unlimited urbanization butalso by desire to control natural springs in order to captureand commercialize water. In each of these waterscapes, wecan see how the different actors, discourses, regulationsand laws intertwine to create forms, meanings and

transformations that generate conditions of inequality,inequity and resistance.

Through this exhibit, which is to take place at the sametime the World Urban Forum-UN-Habitat is being heldin Medelln, Colombia, we want people, to question howcontemporary waterscapes are produced and transformed,and how we can come up with alternatives that lead tosustainable, equitable cities in which water refreshes theway of building democracies, based on the common good.Colombia has to live in balance his bond with water.

De agua continua a gotas prepago esun proyecto realizado en el marco de la

investigacin de la candidata a Ph.D enGeografa Marcela Lpez de la UniversidadLibre de Berln. Este proyecto exploracmo el acceso al agua se ha convertidoen un terreno fundamental sobre el cuallas lgicas de mercado son consolidadas ydisputadas. La transformacin econmica yespacial de Empresas Pblicas de Medelln(EPM), prestadora de los servicios de aguaen la ciudad, y su lgica competitiva estnfuertemente ligadas a discursos que emergende las escalas internacionales, nacionalesy municipales que defienden y legitimanformas particulares de circulacin del agua.Dicha circulacin del agua como mercancacombinada con las condiciones existentesde desigualdad genera la construcciny reconstruccin de paisajes hdricosdesiguales, llevando a las comunidadesms afectadas a buscar soluciones propiaspara proveerse del lquido vital. research project carried out by geographerMarcela Lpez for her PhD dissertation at theFree University of Berlin, in Germany. Said

project explores how access to water hasbecome the basis upon which water marketing

strategies are disputed and consolidated.The economic and spatial transformation

of EPM - Empresas Pblicas de Medelln(Medelln Public Utility Company), thecompany that supplies water to the city,

and its competitive marketing strategies arestrongly linked to international, national,

and municipal discourses that defend andlegitimate particular ways of the circulation

of water. Said merchandised circulation ofwater combined with existing conditions ofinequality generates the construction and

reconstruction of unequal waterscapes thatlead the affected communities into seeking

their own solutions in order to obtain the vitalliquid.

Be Dammedes un proyecto de investigacin de la artista CarolinaCaycedoel cual explora conceptos de flujo y contencin a partir dela interseccin entre los mecanismos de control social y los aspectosno ticos de los trabajos pblicos y los proyectos de infraestructuraincluyendo grandes represas y reservas de agua. El video y lainstalacin de fotografas reflejan el continuo cuestionamiento dela artista sobre los impactos que genera el desarrollo de mega-proyectos en los paisajes naturales y sociales. Enfocndose en elestudio de caso de El Quimbo, una represa hidroelctrica que seencuentra actualmente en construccin a lo largo del ro Magdalenaen Colombia, Caycedo llama la atencin sobre las estructuras depoder fsicas, econmicas y sociales que interrumpen los flujos deorganizacin socio-poltica y esfuerzos de resistencia a travs deobras de arte interrelacionadas entre s.

Be Dammed is a research project by artist Carolina Caycedo.In it, she explores the concepts of flow and constraint from the

point of intersection between social control mechanisms andnon-ethical aspects of public works and infrastructure projects,including great reservoirs and water reserves. The video and

photographs reflect the artists continuous questioning aboutthe impacts caused by the development of these megaprojects

on natural and social landscapes. Through her interrelated artworks, focused on the case study of El Quimbo, a hydroelectric

power station currently under construction along the Magdalenariver in Colombia, artist Caycedo calls attention to the physical,economic and social power structures that interrupt the flow of

sociopolitical organization and efforts to resist.

Crnicas de un inminente etnocidio en el Can del ro Cauca

[Chronicles of an imminent ethnocide in the Cauca river canyon] is agraphic literary work by anthropologist and photographer Jorge ElicerDavid Higuita, winner of the First Call of Encouragement for Creative

Talent organized by the Government of the Department of Antioquia andthe Institute for Culture and Patrimony of Antioquia in 2012.

The hydroelectric project known as Hidroituango is being implemented in aplace known as the Can del ro Cauca, in the department of Antioquia.The multiple negative impacts that it is going to generate have been

hidden without considering the fragility of ecosystems and vulnerability ofancestral communities. From every point of view, this public government

project clearly expresses an ethnocide, a barbaric undertaking againstdefenseless peoples and communities who cannot respond.

es una muestra grfica y literaria del antroplogo y fotgrafoJorge Elicer David Higuita, ganadora de la Primera Convocatoriade Estmulos al Talento Creativo realizado por la Gobernacinde Antioquia y el Instituto de Cultura y Patrimonio de Antioquiaen el ao 2012. El proyecto hidroenergtico Hidroituango seimplementa en la zona conocida como El Can del ro Caucaen el departamento antioqueo. Los mltiples impactos negativosque generar han sido ocultados, desconociendo la fragilidad deecosistemas y la vulnerabilidad de comunidades ancestrales. Esteproyecto del Estado expresa claramente un etnocidio, una accinbrbara desde todo punto de vista, desplegada contra comunidadesy pueblos inermes, que tienen poca capacidad de respuesta.

Water and peasant territories in resistance

Agua y Territorios Campesinos en resistenciaes una muestrafotogrfica de la vida campesina en los corregimientos deMedelln propuesta por la Corporacin Penca de Sbila yrealizada por el fotgrafo Jorge Elicer David.Un mundo concampesinos y campesinas es mejor y ms sostenible que sinellos y ellas, porque tienen una relacin directa y especial conla tierra, el agua y la naturaleza garantizando vida campesinay alimentos para la humanidad. Con su apego al lugar y lacomunidad estabilizan hbitats, paisajes bellos y territoriosligados a sus conocimientos y relaciones sociales. Con supropuesta de libertad y autonoma han preservado una formade vida y de trabajo que producen mas que renta, riquezassociales. Su crecimiento es paso a paso y en razn de lafamilia y la comunidad. Sin vida campesina el pas y la ciudadde Medelln slo tendran un paisaje urbano atiborrado y degrandes urbes sin control, y en el campo habra un paisajerural de palma africana, caa de azcar y pinos, sin gente perocon hidroelctricas, sin comida pero con agrocombustibles,sin cultivos pero con megaminera, sin agua pero conhidrocarburos, sin biodiversidad pero con inmensas rentaspara los pocos dueos del poder y el capital.

This photography work depicts peasant life in the municipalityof Medelln, proposed by Corporacin Penca de Sbila and

carried out by photographer Jorge Elicer David. A world withpeasant men and women is far better and more sustainable than

without them because they have a direct, special relationshipwith earth, water and nature that ensures peasant life and food

for humanity. Their attachment to territory and communitystabilizes habitats, beautiful landscapes, and territories linkedto knowledge and social relationships. With their freedom and

autonomy proposal, they have preserved a way of life and workthat produces, more than income, social riches; their growth

is accomplished step by step and is family and communityoriented. Without peasant life Medelln and Colombia would

only have an urban landscape, crowded with uncontrollablecities; and in the countryside there would be a rural landscapewith african-palms, sugar cane and pine trees, with no people

but with hydroelectric dams, with no food but with agro-fuels, with no crops but with mega-mining, no water but

hydrocarbons, no biodiversity but a large income for the fewowners of capital and power.
