[Reflejo del alma, reflejo de mujeres]

Carla Leo Sol se inspira en el rostro y cuerpo femenino en una exposición intimista: “Amor, ternura... quiero transmitir estos sentimientos en un mundo violento a través de mi pintura inspirándome en la mujer, tan fuerte , tan débil a la vez y misteriosa también. He necesitado tiempo para entrever esto en mis obras.”

La artista explica que cuando empezó a trabajar en Francia en rostros de mujeres, fijó su atención con los “Retratos del Fayoum”, pinturas funerarias del primer siglo después de Jesucristo y realizadas por artistas griegos en Egipto. La autora se decantó posteriormente por retratos y cuerpos más surrealistas, más imaginarios, pero manteniendo siempre como primera fuente de inspiración la mujer.

Carla Leo Sol muestra su preferencia por el uso del óleo sobre tela en una serie de obras de gran calidad y belleza.

En las primeras obras de Carla se observa un estilo peculiar, meritorio y totalmente distinto, y sus últimas obras surrealistas están llenas de una desbordante imaginación.

Aunque ambos estilos se salen de la vida real, los primeros tienen un misticismo en concordancia con el más allá de los tiempos y en la siguiente etapa, el espectador debe situarse más en la mente de la artista, para comprender mejor lo que desea expresar. En sus primeras obras usa como abalorios elementos naturales de la época, combina muy bien la suavidad de los colores y en su obra actual, las permanentes formas redondeadas delatan la flexibilidad de su carácter.

[El día que descubrí la obra de Carla Leo Sol]

Un día fui a una tetería preciosa en Jerez de la Frontera y vi una pintura extraordinariamente hermosa. Era una mujer muy guapa, parecía una gitana. Quería llenar el salón de mi casa con la emoción que transmitía esa intensa expresión. Hablé con el dueño de la tetería y él me puso en contacto con Carla y esa misma tarde, nos conocimos. Ahí empezó una bonita relación amistosa y profesional.

La obra de Carla tiene una fuerza expresiva sorprendente. La forma de conjugar técnica, expresividad y emoción, hacen que uno deje colgado un pedacito de alma en cada una de sus obras. Su estilo es sencillo, fuerte y tierno a la vez, esto, apoyado con el manejo del color, consigue transmitir al observador cada una de las emociones que encierra.

El primer cuadro de Carla que vi fue “Soledad”, en el que representa una mujer fuerte y apasionada. El logro en la luminosidad del rojo de fondo apoya la expresividad del rostro de la mujer dándole un carisma especial. Cuando observas su rostro por primera vez, hay un rostro tierno, pero si observas la totalidad del cuadro, ves la fuerza de una gran mujer. En la posición de sus brazos, se puede ver la protección y la serenidad a la vez, refleja defensa y protección. No podemos menos que ver una mujer fuerte y segura pero sin perder la sensibilidad, la dulzura y la hermosura. No es fácil conjugar tantas cosas en tan pocas líneas. Ahí radica el poder expresivo de la obra de Carla Leo Sol.

Detrás de cada obra de Carla, hay una gran mujer, esa gran mujer que todos llevamos dentro. Y eso es lo que ella quiere compartir con el mundo, que un mundo lleno de grandes mujeres, tiene que ser un mundo hermoso.

[REFLECTION OF THE SOUL, REFLECTION OF WOMEN]

Carla Leo Sol is inspired by the face and body of women, in an intimate exhibition: “Love, tenderness ...I want to transmit these feelings in a violent world through my paintings, inspired by the woman, so strong, so weak and mysterious at the same time. I needed time to realise this in my work.”

When she started working in France on women’s faces, she turned her attention to the “Fayoum portraits” tomb paintings of the first century A.D., made by Greek artists in Egypt. She later opted for more surrealist and imaginative portraits and bodies, but always maintaining women as her first source of inspiration.

Carla Leo Sol has preferred to work in oils on canvas in this series of works of great quality and beauty.

In Carlas´s first painting, one can see an especially excellent and very different style, while later surrealist works are filled with vivid imagination.

Although, both styles go beyond real life, the early paintings contain mysticism in keeping with the after life and in the next stage the spectator must go in to artist’s mind, in order to better understand her. In these early works she used natural elements as embellishments, and combined the softness of the colours while in her present work, the constant rounded forms show her flexibility.

The day I discovered the work of Carla Leo Sol One day I went in to one of those attractive Moroccan-style tea rooms in Jerez de la Frontera, where I saw a very, very striking painting. In this picture there was a beautiful woman, she looked like a gypsy. I immediately wanted to fill my living room with this. I asked the attentive waiter about the artist and he called her. She came to the tea room and we talked for a long time. This moment was the beginning of a warm and friendly professional relationship. Carla’s work has a surprising expressive power. The way of combining technique, expressiveness and emotion, makes you leave a little bit of your soul in each of her paintings. Her style is simple, strong and tender all at once. This, combined with an exciting use of colour, makes the observer perceive each of the emotions hidden there. The first picture of Carla´s that I saw was ”Soledad, which means “Loneliness” in English. The back ground is a very luminous red, the face is most expressive, and you can see a special strength in this. When you look at her face for the first time you only see its tenderness, but if you look at the whole picture, you see the force of a great woman. In the position of her arms, you can see safety and serenity, at the same time, it reflects defence and protection. We cannot help but see a strong, confident woman, who preserves her sensitivity, gentleness and beauty. It is not easy to combine so much in so few lines. This is the expressive power of Carla’s work.

Behind every work of Carla, is a great woman, this great woman that everyone carries within. And that is what she wants to share with the world, a world full of great women, has to be a beautiful world.
