PARTENN
El Partenn conocido como la residencia de las jvenes, es decir, aqu+{p0o la
residencia de Atenea Prtenos) es uno de los principales templos dricos que se
conservan, construido entre los aos 447 y 432 a. C. Sus dimensiones aproximadas son: 69,5
metros de largo, por 30,9 de ancho; las columnas tienen 10,4 metros de altura. Est
dedicado a la diosa griega Atenea, a la que los atenienses consideraban su protectora.
HISTORIA._
La construccin del monumento, realizada casi exclusivamente en mrmol blanco del
monte Pentlico, fue iniciada por Pericles como agradecimiento a los dioses por su victoria
contra los persas, y se desarroll entre los aos 447 y 432 a. C. Los arquitectos encargados
de la obra fueron Ictneo y Calcrates y estuvieron, en la mayora de los casos, bajo las
rdenes del arquitecto y gran escultor ateniense Fidias, autor de la decoracin escultrica yde la gran estatua crisoelefantina de Atenea Partenos que estaba situada como pieza
central del templo (meda doce metros de altura y para su elaboracin se necesitaron 1.200
kilogramos de oro).
El Partenn conserv su carcter religioso |iglesia]] bizantina, una iglesia latina y una
mezquita musulmana. Pero en 1687, los turcos lo utilizaron como depsito de plvora
durante el sitio veneciano, bajo el mando del almirante Francesco Morosini. Una de las
bombas venecianas cay en el Partenn y caus una enorme explosin que destruy gran
parte de la edificacin preservada en buenas condiciones hasta ese entonces. Sin embargo,
el proceso de erosin no termin ah, sino que sigui a principios del siglo XIX, cuando elembajador britnico en Constantinopla, Thomas Bruce Elgin, decidi quitar la mayor parte
de la decoracin escultrica del monumento (frisos, mtopas, frontones) y trasladarla a
Inglaterra para venderla al Museo Britnico, en donde todava se exhibe, siendo una de las
colecciones ms significativas del museo en la actualidad. La fachada occidental del
Partenn est conservada relativamente intacta.

Fue terminado en el ao 438 antes de Cristo, aunque las decoraciones del Partenn hasta
432A AC. Es el edificio sobreviviente ms importante de la Grecia clsica, en general se
considera la culminacin del desarrollo de la orden drica . Sus esculturas decorativas se
consideran algunos de los puntos lgidos de arte griego.

El Partenn es considerado como un smbolo perdurable de la antigua Grecia y de la
democracia ateniense y uno de los ms grandes monumentos culturales del mundo . El
Ministerio de Cultura de Grecia est llevando a cabo un programa de restauracin y
reconstruccin selectiva para garantizar la estabilidad de la estructura parcialmente en
ruinas.
ESCULTURA._
El Partenn, una octostyle , templo drico perptero con caractersticas arquitectnicas
jnicas , albergaba la estatua de Atenea Parthenos criselefantina esculpida por Fidias y
dedicada en el ao 439 o 438 antes de Cristo. La piedra decorativa fue originalmente muy
colorista .
El templo fue dedicado a Atenea en ese momento , a pesar de la construccin continu
hasta casi el inicio de la Guerra del Peloponeso en el ao 432 . Hacia el ao 438, la
decoracin escultrica de las metopas dricas en el friso por encima de la columnataexterior , y del friso jnico alrededor la parte superior de las paredes de la cella , se haba
completado .
La riqueza de friso y decoracin metopa del Partenn est de acuerdo con la funcin del
templo como un tesoro.

Parthenon
The Parthenon known as "the residence of the young ', ie here ' residence of Athena
Parthenos ') is one of the main preserved Doric temples , built between 447 and 432 a. C.
Their approximate dimensions are: 69.5 meters long by 30.9 wide; columns are 10.4 meters
in height. It is dedicated to the Greek goddess Athena , whom the Athenians considered
their protector.
HISTORIAN._
The construction of the monument, made almost entirely of white marble from Mount
Penteli, was initiated by Pericles in thanks to the gods for his victory against the Persians,
and was developed between 447 and 432 a. C. The architects in charge of the work were
Ictneo and Calcrates and were, in most cases, under the direction of architect and great
Athenian sculptor Phidias, author of the sculptural decoration and the great statue ofAthena Parthenos crisoelefantina that was located as the centerpiece of the temple
(measured forty feet high and for processing 1,200 kg of gold were needed).
The Parthenon retained its religious character | church ] Byzantine , a Latin church and a
Muslim mosque . But in 1687, the Turks used it as a gunpowder store during venetian site,
under the command of Admiral Francesco Morosini . One of the Venetian bombs fell on the
Parthenon and caused a huge explosion that destroyed much of the building preserved in
good condition until then. However, the erosion process did not end there , but continued
in the early nineteenth century, when the British ambassador to Constantinople , Thomas
Bruce Elgin, decided to remove most of the sculptural decoration of the monument ( frieze, metopes , pediments ) and move it to England to sell to the British Museum , where it is
still exhibited, being one of the most significant collections of the museum today. The
western facade of the Parthenon is preserved relatively intact.

The Parthenon is regarded as an enduring symbol of Ancient Greece and of Athenian
democracy and one of the most important cultural monuments in the world . The Ministry
of Culture of Greece is carrying out a program of selective restoration and reconstruction to
ensure the stability of the partially ruined structure .
SCULPTURE._
The Parthenon, one octostyle , perptero Doric temple with Ionic architectural features ,
housed the statue of Athena Parthenos sculpted by Phidias criselefantina and dedicated in
439 or 438 BC. Decorative stone was originally highly colored .
The temple was dedicated to Athena at that time, though construction continued until
almost the beginning of the Peloponnesian War in 432 . Around the year 438, the sculptural
decoration of the Doric metopes on the frieze above the colonnade, and the Ionic frieze
around the upper part of the walls of the cella , had been completed .
The wealth of frieze and metope decoration of the Parthenon is in agreement with the
function of the temple as a treasury.
