TWENTY FIFTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME B
Jesus and his disciples left from there and began a journey through Galilee,
but he did not wish anyone to know about it.
He was teaching his disciples and telling them,
“The Son of Man is to be handed over to men
and they will kill him,
and three days after his death the Son of Man will rise.”
But they did not understand the saying,
and they were afraid to question him.
The Gospel today continues from where it left off last week. Jesus continues to teach the disciples about the Kingdom
of God and the necessity of his impending death. Of course they do not understand. Like many students they are
afraid to ask questions. Due to their lack of understanding and inability to comprehend their minds move to other
subjects.
They begin to argue about who is the most important! Clearly they didn’t understand what Jesus was trying to teach
them. Jesus remains patient with them as he explains that they are asking the wrong question. “Importance” in the
Kingdom of God does not matter. Everyone is important, and no one is important. St. Paul reminds us that in Christ
there is no slave or free, no man or woman, no Jew or Greek. In the fourth century St. Augustine wrote in his sermon on
the anniversary of his ordination as Bishop of Hippo; “Where I’m terrified by what I am for you, I am given comfort by
what I am with you. For you I am a bishop, with you, after all, I am a Christian.”
St. Augustine is speaking about the equality of all the baptized followers of Jesus—the Church. In the sight of God we
are all equal, we are all equally called to holiness of life, and we all have received the promise of eternal life. Let us
rejoice in the simple truth that we belong to Christ!
Les decía: "El Hijo del hombre va a ser entregado en manos de los hombres;
