HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT 3 : Item B
Exercise 7:
1. If your supervisor tells you your conclusion is too long, what are you likely to have toomuch of, in terms of the parts of conclusions given in this tutorial?
We would be likely to have too much text in the first section of the conclusion, the
opening of the conclusion. As inexperienced writers, we might try to open the concluding
chapter with a summary of the entire thesis which would make it too long. Besides, if the
reader wants to have a gist of the summary, he only needs to consult the table of
contents.
If your supervisor tells you your conclusion is too short, what are you likely to have too
little or none of, in terms of the parts of conclusion given in this tutorial? Is a conclusion
more likely to be too long, or is it more likely to be too short?

2. Many supervisors emphasize that you should give your own opinion, or include yourown voice in your thesis. Do you think a conclusion is a good place to do this? Why or
why not? Provide examples
Yes, I do. I think a conclusion is a good place to give my own opinion on what has been
previously discussed.
3. What is a conclusion?A conclusion in a thesis paper is one of the most important pieces of information. Since it
summarizes the results of your research and contains the final deductions you have made
from your work. It should contain a concise and clear description of the results of the
conducted research.
This chapter of the research paper should bring to mind the purpose of the thesis, stressthe importance of the thesis statement. It is not necessary to be explicit; the writer may
also repeat the thesis statement. The implications and applications of your work are also
very important pieces of the conclusion. Furthermore, it is very important that the
conclusion gives the paper a sense of completeness and leave a final impression to the
reader.
The conclusion has two main sections. The first section is the biggest of the concluding
chapter, while the second one is more general, more integrated with the field and more
connected to the real world.
In general, concluding chapters usually begin with reminders of the purpose of the thesis
(in some cases, they start with the strengths and weaknesses or the degree ofexpectedness of the results) and close with the implications and applications of the
research.
Something important to highlight is that a conclusion does not contain new issues or add
new material.
