Introduction:Conjugating regular –AR verbs

• Many verbs in Spanish end in –ar.

• We call these verbs “–ar verbs.

• When the verb is in the form ending in –ar, we call it the infinitive. This is the unchanged form of the verb, or the “to” form (to speak, to study, etc.)

• Today we will look at how we create the different forms of –ar verbs.

Apunten Notas:Conjugating regular –AR verbs

• Step 1: Cut off the –AR ending from the infinitive

– Ejemplos: Hablar

Cantar

Bailar

*Habl-, Cant-, and Bail- are the stems of each verb*

• Step 2: Add the new ending onto the stem based on the subject (who is doing the action)

Yo –o Nosotros(as) –amos

Tú –as Vosotros(as) -áis

ÉlElla -a Usted

EllosEllas -anUstedes

Por ejemplo…. Hablar (to speak)

hablar hablar habl-

Yo hablo Nosotros(as) hablamos

Tú hablas Vosotros(as) habláis
