• Joint initiative between BUND & EEB

• Part of Soot-Free for the Climate Campaign

– Started in Germany in 2009 – BUND, DUH, NABU,

VCD

– Working with Eastern European partners (Czech

Republic, Hungary, Poland, Slovenia)

– City Ranking Project for Western Europe

Project Aims

• Reduce black carbon emissions – NO2, PM10,

PM2.5

• Focus on transport measures

• Highlight solutions and best practice

• Strengthen compliance with AQ Directive

Process & Timeline

• Selection of cities – June 2010

• Questionnaire sent to municipalities – June 2010

• Analysis of results – July to September 2010

• Ranking and report launched – October/November 2010

• European Parliament event – November 2010

• Lobby work – November 2010 through January 2011
