EL PRETÉRITO PERFECTO
Situación:
It is equivalent to the English perfect tense where you have a compound tense, in two
parts. There is the auxiliary in the present tense (to have = haber) and the verb in
the past participle.
Its use in Spanish is slightly different from the English use. In Spanish, it is used
for:
1. finished actions in a time NOT finished
p.ej. This morning I had breakfast at 8.30. (it is now 10am)
This week I have run twice already. (it’s only Thursday)
2. finished actions that have been recently completed
p.ej. I have just finished my homework.
They have just come home.
3. actions that have happened sometimes, without accuracy of the time (in your
life) and are still true
p.ej. I have been friends with Tom for the last 10 years. (still
friends)
We have lived in Leicester for 3 years. (still live there)

The auxiliary HABER in the present tense + verb in the past participle (the –ed
form!).
The past participle is formed by removing the verb ending (-AR, -ER, -IR) and adding

The imperfect is the tense used to describe things or events that used to happen or
were repeated in the past.
p.ej. There was a house near the beach. It was huge and it was decorated

It is also used to ‘set the stage’ for another action that happened suddenly.

El cine de hoy y el cine de ayer
El cine ha cambiado con el paso del tiempo. Ahora hay películas en 3D, que hace que la experiencia de ir al
cine sea más emocionante e inolvidable. Si usas las gafas 3D, es como si estuvieras dentro de la película.
También hay muchas salas de cine y puedes ver películas de todo el mundo y de todos los géneros. Las
películas tienen efectos especiales y las pantallas de los cines son gigantescas.
En el pasado, solamente había dos o tres salas de cines en una ciudad, por lo que ir al cine era complicado.
Generalmente, las entradas eran muy caras y solo la gente rica podia ir a ver películas. Además, muchas

LA FIESTA DEL CINE
El pasado 2, 3 y 4 de marzo se celebró LA FIESTA DEL CINE en más de 1.000.000 de salas de cine. El
evento fue todo un éxito ya que más de 10.000.000 personas fueron a ver alguna de las películas en cartelera

Me llamo Rebeca y tengo anorexia
Desde que tengo 16 años padezco anorexia, que es un trastorno de la alimentación. Pienso que los medios
de comunicación y las revistas tienen la culpa de todo. Siempre aparecen modelos flacas en las portadas
de las revistas y en las pasarelas y yo quiero ser como ellas. Quiero imitar a esas chicas y ser como ellas.
También la edad tiene la culpa. Cuando eres joven, eres muy vulnerable e influenciable. Siempre quieres
