El tema del Día Internacional de la Mujer 2014, celebrado anualmente el 8 de marzo,
es: “Igualdad para las mujeres: progreso para tod@s”.
El Día Internacional de la Mujer surgió de las actividades de los movimientos obreros
a finales del siglo XX en América del Norte y Europa. Desde entonces, el Día Interna-
cional de la Mujer ha adquirido una dimensión global para las mujeres de los países
desarrollados y en desarrollo por igual. El creciente movimiento internacional de las
mujeres, fortalecido por cuatro conferencias mundiales de las Naciones Unidas sobre
la mujer, ha ayudado a que su conmemoración ofrezca la oportunidad de incrementar
el apoyo a los derechos y la participación de las mujeres en las esferas política y
económica.

Ruben Darío es considerado el padre del modernismo
como movimiento literario en Iberoamérica, que se
inició con dos obras suyas, "Azul" (1888) y "Prosas Pro-
fanas" (1896), y que concluyó con su muerte en 1916. A
su sepelio asistieron más de quince mil personas.
